Looks like a nice unit. The only issue for me is weather radar does not appear to be available in automotive mode.

Do a quick search. This unit looked promising, but as someone pointed out, the XM weather is not available in street mode.
They do have an avaiation unit that looks like it would work, has FM for traffic, and XM for weather. Should work in the same Touratech 665 mount. $1500....

I'm trying to put a .gpx file on my friend's 640 everything went well or so I thought. I can see the file in one of the drives on my pc but when I switch the unit to boating mode to run the track it's not there. Any ideas what I might be missing here?

I think, but don't know, but those units might only run marine and topo maps.
Also, you might well have to run Homeport to load tracks and stuff into them.

Garmin makes some really SWEET Marine units (look at the Striker Plus 4cv or the slightly older echoMap 43dv).
Problem is that they won't accept automotive maps, or even the old Road & Rec.
I know, I've tried. I've even tried hacking the maps, but no luck.
If you can live with the clutter of a topo map, you can make it work. But a topo is too busy for me.

Unfortunately this is the unit we have to work with. My friend wants to ride the Arizona Peace Trail. To complete the loop it would be over 750 miles in about 4 or 5 days out in the middle of nowhere. We have a great .gpx file thanks to the work of John Geyer at arizonapeacetrail.org. I was able to load the file in both Base Camp and Mapsource so no problem there. I think I figured it out I thought it would be a little more intuitive but for me that was not the case. Tracks can only be run in boating mode as far as I know. So it goes something like this. From the Home screen touch Information>User Data>Data Transfer then Merge From Card. Presto it's there now we'll have to go make trial run just to check it out.
