    I'm up before sunrise...

    ...snapping pictures like a madman.

On clear days like this the good light disappears quickly after sunrise.

Humphrey's Peak, the highest point in Arizona, is 67 miles away near Flagstaff.

Time to pack up before someone discovers me out here.

The photos have a tendency to make these grand views look small. This photo gives nearly a 180 degree wide field of view.

thank you so much for this report. I've been away from home for about 7 years now and yearn to go back. I'm on my first bike, and can't wait until I get brave enough to try something like this. fantastic photos as well. Just a superb report.

    Chris.

I promised myself only one more night, but when I got up this morning I had changed my mind.
There's a lot more to ride to make this a more comprehensive ride, but I'm done.
I just want to go home. I miss my wife, kids, and dog.

Before leaving Point Sublime I look across the canyon at Havasupai Point, the spot I camped on night 1.
If I could just fly 5.6 miles across the canyon I could save myself about 110 miles of riding.:D

This is almost better than flying anyway.

Point Sublime Trail is not a bad way to end a trip.

After this, everything else will be underwhelming.

I pick my way through the aspen forest again...

to ride the side hill around the tree.

I forgot how rough this trail can be in places. I can't believe I rode it 2up with my son when he was 11.

There were 2 other logs that will keep out 4 wheelers, but the motorcycle squeezed through, no problem.

    Frosty

This sign lies. I wouldn't recommend riding 18 miles in one direction on this trail.

    [IMG]........[IMG]

    I race down Highway 67...

    for breakfast at Jacob Lake.

I cross at Marble Canyon and head south on the Navajo Nation.

    Humphrey's Peak

In Flagstaff I dump an impressive amount of fuel in the tanks...

...and race home on the interstate.

Carbeques are a common sight around here.

The trip is over. I made it home safe. It was an awesome time.
I regret not sticking around to finish the ride, but now I have a long list of reasons to return.

I'll be back for more information for the GCBAR like maps, tracks, and other places to visit.
If you guys have questions, fire away!

Thanks Dave. I just had a nice coffee break going over your report

I believe I was lucky enough to be in the 'wettest storm in years' when I was north of that area last month. Had to readjust my route and plans.

Reading this report though, has made me realize that I can broaden the scope of my route big time for a future trip.

    What is HDR?

I sure know what you mean. The return trip back to Kansas City from the west is the hardest part - I usually end up slabbing it just to get it over with. :cry

    Dave,
Excellent read - and great pictures.
I have been on the rim a few times, but never really saw the beauty of the Grand Canyon until this RR.
Another ride for the bucket list.
    Thank you!

Every picture as good or better than the previous one!
You really catch the beauty of your surroundings for all of us to enjoy.
    Thanks

Great report! I love N. Arizona, S. Utah the times I have spent there. I am trying to get my riding cronies to plan a two week run next Fall. Your pictures could be used in Arizona Highways Mag :super. I have yet to pack the DSLR on the GS, but a good image does take good glass and sensor.

My wife, upon seeing these pictures, finally gave up her fight against me doing just such a trip.

    Thanks.

Coffee and Ride Reports = Cool.

Luckily I only have to slap a few hundred miles.

What is HDR? I answered that in this thread: Motorcycles in HDR. Enjoy!

And these are not even my best photos of the Grand Canyon. Dramatic and colorful skies would have helped, but riding these roads during Monsoon season causes other potential problems. Thanks!
