Personally, I prefer Montrose over GJ, but as a whole the area is nice. I wouldn't classify the area as artistic or culturally diverse.

When are you thinking of a push toward the Western Slope? I am hiring a private investigator out there in the next couple months. If this sounds like work that might intrigue you, send me a PM. It doesn't pay a lot, but enough and it may put you in a position to be a pain in @unaweep side. :D

Barry - Grand Junction is great. I grew up here and left in the 80's, moved back in 2012 with my wife and young boys...its a great place to raise a family.

After moving back, I see Grand Junction from both a local and outside perspective, and GJ can be quirky in someways, but nothing major. I'm a commercial broker, so I see and feel the pulse of the valley.

I work downtown Grand Junction 6th and Rood Ave, when you arrive in town let's meet up for lunch and I'll tell you all the good (and possibly less than good) about Grand Junction. Feel free to text or call me at 970-250-4228.

Mancos is pretty nice year round. I actually think it would be a nice spot out of the way with great riding out the back door.

Be warned, the towns claim to fame was that Polygamist Cult and the town still has that feel and culture looming in the background. Close enough to Duango for a taste of touristy CO and the college town atmosphere. Close enough to Cortez for some larger city ammentities.

The thing about Cortez...To this day there are cowboy and Indian conflicts in that town.
