    The Prologue

This is starting to be a habit (or is it becoming an addiction?)
Michelle & I are off to Europe once again. This time we have decided to check out IMT Rentals in Barcelona Spain.
We have a couple of F 700 GS's lined up and our maps of the Pyrenees are waiting!

After watching the 2013 edition of Le Tour we have a few of their roads added to our route.
Basic plan looks a little like this (right now / subject to change).

We want to see some castles, check out places like Carcassonne, and basically tear up the mountain twisties!
got a lot of inspiration from this TRIP :thumb

I think the weather will be a bit nicer than previous Alps trips, so no snow this time (we hope).
Anyway.... the countdown timer is engaged! Roll on Spain!!

    :clap

Great to see you guys "moving" again.
Staying away from the northern Spanish coast?
Bit of a shame, really...the coastal road (old N260) isn't quite as knee-shaking as it used to be (extremely twisty, tight, narrow, and quite "rustic") but by Gosh, the views are still the same. And they're BREATHTAKING!

And the little side-trip into Cadaques/ Cap de Creus really shouldn't be missed.
    http://goo.gl/maps/ODRsU
Pop the name into the Youtube search bar...
Rosas, a little south, is a typical tourist hive...rather stay in San Pere Pescadore. Recommendable place here.

    When's D-day?
    Happy travels :freaky

we toyed w/ the idea of getting up to the Atlantic, but I just don't know if we will have quite enough time. That being said, if we crush the miles & we have time on our hands, we will certainly go coast to coast!

    thanks for the tip :thumb

lift off is the 8th of September.

    ah OK Pete...
just properly clicked the links (was on the phone before) and now see the "northern Spain" you're talking about!

I may have to alter the route slightly, that looks fantastic!

    thanks again!

This French site (English option) is designed to go all the peaks of the Pyrenees. Hope this help. Enjoy the travel in my favourites mountains.

Bunch of Aussies on one of their O/S jaunts, Western Alps this time around.

South into the Valais for a few days, riding the southern balconies towards Martigny for the start. Some old military roads. Dents du Midi and a day around Zinal.
Then into France and Italy in the search for out-of-the-way gravel, Stura-Maira Ridges, Ligurian Ridge and into the Vercors via more gravel. Return via the Bernese High Country.
Lots of good food and local brews, even more good laughs with some of the locals :clap:clap
    Looking forward :freaky

Could'nt agree more, the roads in the Parc National Cap Creus are superb! Also agree ....skip Roses, but must see Cadaques, by all means!. My personal favorite is the Neu de Sol in Palau Saverdera. Superb hotel in a quiet little farm town, just outside the Nat'l Parc. The owner, Merce, is a complete winner. I'm tempted to say she treats you like family, but actually my family treats me much worse than that & doesn't feed me half as well.

Based on excellent recommendations by Pete (glitch_oz) and Jim K I have altered the route.

Room booked at Niu De Sol :thumb
Looks fantastic (three stars tho... we won't know what to do w/ ourselves :D ... we are usually happy wherever we end up), and I have rerouted us to take in Cadaques and the N260 up the coast.

    cheers guys!
great to get the heads-up on this else we'd have missed it.

    Hey we're back!!!
and did we have a great time? you bet your ass we did!!!

Spain, the Pyrenees, the people... fantastic! :clap

The roads? smooth as a billiard table & twistier than Chubby Checker :D

So, here's the story in pictures. Hopefully I haven't left too much out.

    The players:
This is me getting ready to head to Boston

and this is Michelle (my partner in crime)

We have done a couple of trips together to the Alps, with a bit of Italy & France thrown in, but we wanted to try something different. We decided on Spain & rentals from IMT Bikes in Barcelona. We would normally fly out of Providence, but for some reason this year connections from Boston were a lot cheaper... so off we go!

    House all packed up?
"yes yes.. I know what I am doing..." :lol3

Pays to have a girl who flies hard for a living... upgrade to first? don't mind if I do!

Seems funny to drive to Boston just to fly over one's own house... hey .. wait a sec..

Well, that's OK, Kev & Jodie are coming to spend the night (next week...) Luckily I either a) don't have anything worth stealing, or b) live in a pretty low-key neighborhood. Back to the trip.

Another perk of excessive flying: Envoy Lounge <grin> We usually fly on a Monday, so I am texting these pics to coworkers, but this time we're flying on Sunday, so no such abuse.

After a completely uneventful flight we awake to see... SPAIN! Looks like the weather is lovely!

Now normally we'd be on the bikes first thing, but for a change of pace we decided we'd see Barcelona first. We grabbed a cab to the hotel (now I know why Alonso, Marquez, Pedrosa, et al are so fast... they need to be!)

Off we go on a walking tour of Barcelona.. Google maps says "20 minutes walking".. piece of cake....
40 minutes later La Rambla.. and it is time for a coffee!

Not being a normal "go look at churches & old buildings" kind of guy (or Michelle really for that matter) we decided that in this case we would go stroll the Gothic Quarter. We wandered over to Cathedral of the Holy Cross and Saint Eulalia, and I have to say, even though old churches don't usually do anything for me, this one was breathtaking.

    Amazing stonework outside

and I have no words to describe the interior

There was a lift to the roof, so up we went....the shots that follow are from that vantage point.

OK... enough church.. jet lag kicking in...

Narrow streets of the Gothic Quarter

    Old doors with new graffiti

A view back to the city from the old harbor

I guess it is time to do the wander back the the hotel...we grab a shower, and a nap, and then head out to find some food.

What could be a better end to a day of travel than cold cerveza and mystery tapas? :D

    the riding begins tomorrow.....
    stay tuned!</grin>
