As a KLR rider I'm looking to be cheap and conserve wattage, I read this somewhere thought i should repost here.

The cheap grip heaters with the resistor don't use less power on low they just heat the resistor instead of the grip, so if you install a 12v automotive 2 wire flasher about $5 it will "flash" on low cycling the power about 50% of the time depending on the rating of the flasher. you simply cut the resistor out and wire the flasher in place of it.

I installed mine like this last week road to Recompance with some FF's and it worked great, not too hot, not too cold it was just right! :thumb

Cheap and simple PWM kind of solution.

    Brilliant.

But a cheap and "real" 12v PWM controller is 5$ on Ebay...just sayin'! ;)

A true Cheap Bastard would just mount a scavenged light switch (look for a dumpster outside a house being remodeled) where he could flip it off and on with a pinky every so often.

You went and spent a whole $5 that could have been used for a whole stack of socks and underwear at Goodwill...

The grip heaters from California sport touring have a "real low", no resistor or wasted wattage!
