This thread is for everybody interested in a group buy for the F650 GS/Dakar to YZ fork swap lock adapter. I can manage the order and money collection for this.

The quote came back back from the manufacturing company and here's what we've got based on how many we can get commitments for.

    qty 2 - $250.52 each + shipping
    qty 5 - $179.86 each + shipping
    qty 10 - $147.10 each + shipping

If you are serious about buying one or more of these please post below. Once we have a firm number of interested parties, I'll collect money and make the order. Shipping is in a USPS flat rate box for $11.35 for US addresses.

Also, there is a 3 week lead time for the parts from the time we make any order.

    -----Info below----

How to install on the bike:

    1) Set up your BMW with the YZ fork swap
    2) Tighten the Stock BMW key lock into the adapter with 5/16-18 screws with the head of your choice (security or regular)
    3) Set the adapter into position on the small ear at the top of the YZ triple clamp
    4) Put a temporary (or permanent if you wish) screw through the adapter hole to attach it to the triple clamp
    5) Test the fit and locking mechanism
    6) Remove the triple clamp/adapter assembly from the bike
    7) Weld the adapter to the triple clamp (any local welder should be able to do this)
    8) Reinstall and ride

These are professionally manufactured parts, but due to variations in bikes, triple clamps, and the one-off nature of the product, some slight mods could be necessary, but I seriously doubt it.

    Questions? Let me know.
    -Mike

PS - Note to Mods. I checked with one of the Mods and he said to put this in the bike specific forum. If this belongs in vendors, please move it there, please don't just delete it.

I am interested but the price is a bit high for me even with 10 buyers. Is there a further discount if more than 10 are sold?

    Ok gang,

I've got some good news and some bad news. The bad news first.

The adapter will only fit and work on triple clamps that look like this.

The good news is that these are very common, and extremely cheap. Let me know if you have questions.

I think you could easily drill and tap a bracket to hold a 12v or USB plug onto the side of this.

I didn't have it quoted in quantity higher than 10, but generally, the discount starts getting less and less as quantity increases. If we can actually get commitments for 10 pieces, then we'll see about higher quantities.

    Cheers,
    Mike

So far I know that a '98 YZ125 clamp and the 2000 YZ426F clamp look like this. I also know that the 2005 YZ450F does not. I'm thinking that Yamaha switched at some point, and the earlier clamps work, and the newer ones do not. If anybody else has any more info, it'd be great to get it out there.

    Thanks,
    Mike

Mike - this looks like the perfect solution to the problem that I am about to have!

Put me in for 1 with the disclaimer that we exceed 5 and that you are happy to ship to the UK.

Clearly, I would prefer that you reach 10 :lol3

Just checking in here. Do you guys, Mick and Nomad, want to order at the smaller quantity? Per part cost for three will be cheaper than two....

    Take 'er easy,

Mike, I am in for only (1) for sure. That probably screws up the math. I am ready now for (1). (2) if we can get to five and the price comes down. Let me know either way.

    Cheers, Michael

Well, here's the totals so far.

    In!:
    Colonial Mick
    Nomad5426

    If we get to 5:
    Dale C
    Nomad5426 (#2maybe)

    If we get to 10:
    WERA456
    WERA456 (#2maybe)
    Tessitori (maybe)

Looks like we might have enough for an order of 5, but technically, no order exists yet based on what people have said. If we had one more person commit for a price of 5, and Nomad does in-fact buy 2, then it's a go. :deal

My guess is that there are others people who have done the swap that would be interested, but don't really know about it.
