Made a run into the city today. It's October and the temperature on my ambient gauge was reading in the mid-80's ! Here is the finished (mural) product from the last post.

For those that don't understand the "inside" joke above, it pertains to Will wanting to buy my GSA, and me considering selling it to him at one point. So, just a little friendly ribbing there.

Jeff where in Detroit do you find all these murals?
I have cousins up there and they have never talked about these things.

Hey Dave - These days, Detroit must rival any city in the world when it comes to street art in the form of high quality murals.

They are all over the city, and I hit up various areas, but the majority of the murals I post up from the Motor City are in the Eastern Market area and up and down Gratiot Avenue.

Also Grand River Avenue and Hamtramck. Southwest Detroit and Mexicantown.

Murals seem to be catching on all over the country. They have definately captivated my mind.

    Ann Arbor -

The weather is still hanging in there tough. So much so, and considering the dryness, that I'm wondering what kind of color palette our leaves will bring us this year throughout the region.

Today was so comfortable, that I spent a few hours floating around Ann Arbor. The air quality has been incredible this weekend. Haven't felt this good in some time. Not a hint of allergies or viruses nagging me at all.

Sauntering along some trails that hug the Huron River, most of the foliage is still vividly alive with green. Some of the early turners or stressed trees are starting to show some change though. While considering the fall colors, my stream of thoughts carried with them reflections and reminders that not so many years ago, my mind was so preoccupied or clouded, that I never even noticed the incredible color display that nature rewarded us with at years end. Clarity of mind and focusing more on the moment has changed things drastically ... for the better.

Mixed it up a little with some urban exploring in the heart of town. Ann Arbor was bustling with activity as usual; even on a late Sunday afternoon.

Stopped into the Red Hawk Tavern for a sensible dinner. They offer a divine wedge salad. For some reason, whenever I have a wedge salad there, I also crave an effervescent light beer. Just one. Sharpens the taste buds and puts me in a relaxed mood. Sitting in the outside dining area, with this unseasonably warm October weather, the early evening cool air carried with it a deceptively summer-like surrealness.

After dinner, I headed for Comet Coffee in Nickels arcade. A beer to relax, then a strong full bodied coffee to climb back up; a clean and enlightened mans version of a speedball. Good livin' - celebrating life.

The architecture involved with Nickels Arcade seems like something straight out of old Europe. It may be the most awe-inspiring corridor I've ever set foot in; a clear disparity from the debris strewn alleyways that I traversed yesterday in the Motor City.

Nice pics of the murals Jeff. Such a nice change from the graffiti of the recent past in Detroit.

    OUIZI -

Heading West along Michigan Avenue on Saturday after running down murals all afternoon, I came across Ouizi and crew still hard at work. She is a flowery mural master; her floral murals have been blossoming all over Detroit. I've come across her work not only in Detroit, but also Toledo. It's always nice to meet up with and put faces to these artists; especially while they are in action - working their craft. Her real name is Louise Chen.

On my way down to the Blue Ridge Gathering ST event. Taking the back roads and found this mural in Ft Recovery, OH.
(I see another one down the street - maybe I'll grab a pic of that too)[IMG]
