Wondering if there's a consensus yet on which one to get.
Questions like, best bang for the buck, which one doesn't funnel furnace exhaust on your boots, etc.

    Thanx in advance.

Of course it does depend on how you're going to use your GS...

Your going to hear alot about the AltRider plate next...
I almost bit until a BMW wrench that I trust said to avoid it due to oil changes.
That mounting to the centerstand pivot deal? May be a good structural design, but not worth the hassle in my view.
I ended up getting the Touratech Rallyform plate. Very sleek and easy on/off.
Now, wait for the blasting to begin... :hair

    Thanx for the input.
I think I want to go with steel.
IMO, anything less than 1/8" is decorative only. Aluminum, considering the mass of the bike, needs 3/16" or more.
Sounds like the Altrider kit needs a kind of bolt on hatch (6 bolt pattern?) that covers the oil filter well. That way the whole plate doesn't need to come off.
    Would that work?
    But the heat question remains...

Don't tell me...you're an engineer...it must be the multiple specs in your avatar that gave it away.
That sounds like an easily engineered answer.
Peeps are gonna say 'but theres' a drain hole!' Yeah good luck with that.

I don't know anyone who makes a steel plate for any bike.
No real advantage in my eye.
The latest thing for dirt bikes is PVC plates.

The filter on the Wethead is mounted on the side of the motor. The bash plate doesn't get in the way. Some plates have a drain hole in them.

I wouldn't want anything on the plate that isn't flush, like an access plate bolted on. It would get hung up too easily.

Take a look at Black Dog. He makes good stuff.
However the GSW plate? Well, it kind of makes the headers suceptible to damage.

Just a note on the heat. I have no noticeable heat issues with the TT plate. I as more concerned with noise,
Used some noise deadening material before I installed it. No extra noise at all.

    Are you talking an R1100GS?

I hadn't paid attention to where the oil filter is... I'm embarrassed to admit. Still a new bike to me. I'm used to the 1100gs.
As for an access plate, it could have a 45deg chamfered edge and CSFH fasteners...

    3/16" 5052 Aluminum
    That's getting there.
Then of course it comes down to where it's attached to... One could have a substantial impact and transfer all that energy to a thin casting....

Edit* Appears Altrider is 3/16" also and redesigned for easy oil changes.

A 600 pound bike with 200 more pounds of person and gear will rip it right off if you hit a rock or solid object. This is why none of the vendors do it.

I went with the Black Dog and have zero buyer's remorse. It's super sturdy and has taken a few hits on large rocks with no damage.

One of the other things that cancelled my vote for the AltRider.

I'm interested in the BDCW v2.0 skid plate for my '17 GSA. Checks all boxes for me, but the header pipe coverage is of some concern. At that price, it's gotta be good, right? :eekers BDCW has a stellar reputation and I appreciate they are only 30 minutes up the road from my home! GO IDAHO/Made in the USA!!! Making 'Merica Great Again! :thumb

Any additional feedback from anyone that runs the v2.0 on the WC GSA?
