    Cogent Dynamics, but I see by your other bike that you may know what other DR riders know. A friend just had Cogent build a pair of Ohlins for his T100 and they ride great. Cost was reasonable (mid 500s). Even though the V7 is not listed on the web page they can build shocks for most anything.

    Hmmmm.....the bike does not have the travel of a GS, that's for sure, but "stiff" in stock form the suspension is definitely not. Installing the new shocks should've stiffened up the ride, and I assume they're sprung for your weight; do they offer any rebound or compression adjustment? Also, did you measure the sag of the front forks? You might need to make a spring/fluid adjustment up front to. Have a look around the GuzziTech forum and give Todd a shout. I'll be posting ride impressions of my V7 later today. One thing is for sure, the stock suspension and tires aren't the greatest.

    I guess we have different ideas about what "stiff"feels like. The Ikons have a damping adjustment and I tried all the settings-they just vary the level of unpleasantness.

    What about the other questions I posed? Sag, front springs, etc...how do you weigh (a range is fine) and which Ikon shocks did you buy? Trying to be of help, these suspensions aren't very elaborate.

    Pretty much done with the project (thank you Todd @ GuzziTech!! :clap), details shown below.

    '12 Moto Guzzi V7 Classic
    -Mistral Slip-Ons (plus crossover)
    -Power Commander V
    -Auto Tune
    -Gazi Sport Shocks
    -Fork Emulators
    -V7 Racer solo seat (re-stiched w/ black thread)
    -Pirelli Sport Demons

    Rode it a good 80mi-90mi today in the local canyons (Angeles Crest) at both moderate and high speeds for this motorcycle (65mph-75mph turns). My thoughts thus far are as follow,

    Motor/Sound: much improved power delivery, better power across the curve, more responsive, super fluid....smooth, brighter, more awake. Todd is going to double check the ecu/pcv/at settings once more as I think it can be improved upon even a bit more. regardless, the fueling improvements are WELL WORTH the money in my eyes. the Mistral slip-ons go to save weight (lose the cat), and help improve the looks i think. the sound they produce is where the money's at, akin to a small block chevy with glass packs....man-o-man....what a great sounding bike it is, one of the best that i've owned yet :wink:

    Suspension/Tires: in stock form, the bike would wallow, was sprung/damped ultra soft in my opinion and which offered very little feedback. the bike was beyond nervous at higher speeds, and most definitely in faster turns. the new rear shocks were a great upgrade, the bike feels much more settled now, i can actually feel the rear, it doesn't move all over the place as it did. the front fork emulators/fluid were a pleasant addition and helped improve front end feel, but let's face it, ohlins forks they're not.... the tires performed well, they probably were a big helper in the feel department but the bike's turn-in is not light even with having gone with a 90 profile rear (z-rated to match the front). at the end of the day there's only so much one can do in this area, the bike simply is what it is, but it's much better than stock :deal

    Solo Seat: i won't be doing many iron butts on this bike that's for sure....looks the business in my eyes (suede insert), but an all day seat it is not. remember, it's a small bike, not all that tall, not sure how those taller than me (5' 10") would fit comfortably on it. (other cosmetic mods include the removal of the turn signal spacers and addition of the fork gaiters....chrome clip-ons from the Cafe model are on order)

    in a nutshell, the bike is more rideable at faster speeds but a true sport bike it is not. without the improvements the bike is lazy at best (remember its price-point), with the mods it's actually a fun and capable Sunday cruiser that exudes style, has yesteryear looks, and sounds as good as any small block motor you've heard.

    I just wish I could find a more comfoertable seat. It is to stiff even for daily commuting,IMHO.

    Could it be that the ergo's aren't working for you? I find that the V7C puts a of pressure on the lower spine. I can deal with it, but for someone who can't, maybe lower bars that straighten the back and shift some weight forward would help.

    For me, the Ikons solved the biggest problem I was having with the V7, which is that sharp bumps were too jarring. The Ikons, as I have them set, are softer than stock. I wouldn't call them stiff.

    There's only so much you can do to improve the chassis of the V7C. It's best to enjoy it for what it is.

    I have the Cafe seat and the Classic seat. The Cafe seat is a bit thicker and softer but gets uncomfortable after a full day in the saddle.

    The harder Classic seat is ok for a couple days more and is the one I leave on the bike.

    Nice little bike, but appeals to a different type of rider class.

    that made me laugh, Joe, don't think that it hasn't already crossed my mind!.....the front end needs work if i expect to ride it in a spirited way, if not, it will suffice for lazy Sunday rides.....riding my Aprilia yesterday reminded me what a real sport bike feels like....WOW that bike.

    I weigh @180. I haven't adjusted the sag or dealt with the forks yet. I forget which Ikon shocks I got, but they're the ones specified for my bike.

    Re: the ergos, you could be right. I rode over 700 miles on a trip last week on my DR and had no problems.

    I have rotated the bars forward and back, and used an AirHawk pad to elevate my seat a bit. Maybe I am trying to make the bike into something it's not. Maybe the roads around here are just to bad for such a bike and an old man with a bad back:gerg

    measuring/setting the sag could at least help, it would most definitely not hurt. the reason i asked about which Ikon shocks was in looking to see if they even offered any kind of damping adjustment, and if so, to make subtle adjustments in hopes of achieving the ride you're looking for.

    you nailed it....the bike (from stock) can most definitely be improved upon, but trying to turn it into something it's not will be a challenging endeavor.

    The shocks do have a four-position damping adjuster. I tried all four along with several preload settings.

    just read the description on MG Cycle.....the preload adjustment (three setting style) and rebound adjustment (four position) would not suggest that they're performance/comfort oriented. not sure how to say that any nicer way. personally, the stock shocks (Sachs) with their ring style preload adjustment offer a more precise method of adjusting preload/sag. unfortunately i can't comment as to the rebound settings as I don't own the Ikons, but the type of adjustment (four options) they offer doesn't seem like it offers all that much. my point is that you might be trading one set of shocks for another that aren't all that much different (give/take) at the end of the day.

    ...and moved up to the Stelvio. For those following this thread, it kind of broke my heart to let go of the V7 because it was such a ball to ride. It all came down to whether I wanted to risk having more nerve damage riding the little V7. I didn't lose my shirt trading up because the bike was practically new and they knew it would sell quickly.

    The Stelvio is DEFINITELY a different type of bike. It has a lot more power and, and it's a lot easier on my old bones. But power isn't everything and the V7 motor is more fun than the 1200 in the Stelvio.

    Well, now that you're riding on modern suspension, with lots of leg room, you should be good to go for 800 miles days. I agree that the enjoyment factor on the small block engine isn't quite there on the 1200 8V's. What you get instead is performance and an engine that is still very enjoyable, just not quite the same as the small block.
