hack w/trailer

    i saw this camper trailer.wheighs about 255lbs.its made to be towed by car or mc.i'm going to get one but my question is where do you think it should be towed from?the rear of the mc or inbetween the hack and mc?

    I had the same thoughts recently.

    Logically, if you don't mount it directly behind the bike, it will contribute to the pull to the right the sidecar already provides.

    Conversely, it will center the trailer behind the bike to put it in the middle. I suspect this benefit is comparatively small though.

    Realize I'm talking out of my ass here...

    but, I believe the reason many/most mount the hitch between the tug and the hack is to lessen the overall width of the train.

    If you mount the hitch behind the bike, you've got half a trailer on one side and a sidecar on the other, starting to push into Hummer width territory...

    I followed a link that Scott Davis (up there ^^^^^^^^^ a couple of posts:D ) provided in the other sidecar/trailer thread on here and saw this cool hitch:

    those pics make all the difference in my thought process.now i can see the hummer effect if shes mounted behind the mc.those trailer hitches are clever and will be employed on this project.:norton

    That looks like the hitch from Gene Holopaw. I bought one and mounted it last weekend to tow my m/c camper trailer.

    First test ride was fine, getting the wiring adapted between the Ural and the trailer was a bit tedious.

    It seems to me that mounting an offset hitch on the left side of the bike would actually help offset the right-pulling tendency under throttle. If you did not stick the hitch out beyond handlebar width then you could avoid the 'Hummer' sized issues. The offset tongue for the trailer would help, too. Great idea!

    Don't forget that the trailer has width as well.

    Perhaps if the trailer had an offset ball, but then I suspect it'd be much more likely to jack knife.
