After a delightful evening hosting Elmer and Sharon, comparing rigs and farkles, telling stories and cheering over the underdog Netherlands win yesterday, our guests left this morning bound for New York. Barley (my 3 y/o golden) and I escorted them to the ferry crossing, then waved goodbye and took a longer, more scenic way home so my pup could stop to play at parks, in the river, etc.

I sure hope some of those photos Sharon took of us turn out! I don't have any shots of my shotgun passenger yet!

It was an absolute pleasure meeting you both, doing shots of Screech with chasers of beer, and getting you rested up for the road. Safe travels!

We haven't posted anything for three days: No real Wi-Fi; too rainy; too tired; nothing new..since Cite Quebec...

Then came Vermont...too rainy on the way to Stowe; too busy chatting with inmate MZCountryboy at lunch and taking some tours up the mountains; then too busy mingling with the chickens, sheep, rabbit, dogs on the farm of inmate Boondox. There'll be a lot of pictures to come hoping Smugmug won't get overtaxed!

Coming to the US + Vermont

Passed through a Town called Thedford Mines, QC..strange English name in French Quebec and "Mines"??

    The story is:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thetford_Mines.....read it thyself:lol3 .

Up a steep hill to visit inmate Boondox...before going up the gravel road we came upon this sign:

the "Sound of Music" family's compound. Wonder if their offspring still runs it?

Finally up a steep gravel hill..

    To Boondox farm..

It's a 104 year old Farm House thats still original in its setting. There we were intorduced to all the anmals that habit the premises and of course his lovely wife.

Here we're already discussing sidecars: his Hannigan and my Dauntless; comparing accessories that work.

Lucky man..he got another 1200GS in case he wants to ride 2 wheels..

I did notice that the Hannigan is quite bit close to the ground and still call it a dual sport!..the stabilizer is even lower, might be an impediment if riding the TLH or CDT...

We're back into the asphalt jungles of Pennsylvannia. Tomorrow we should be in the city of Brotherly love and try munching on a Philly Steak. We won't be in our homeport of North Carolina for another week.

Many thanks for having followed our ride report. We appreciated you support, encouragement and of course all of your comments while we were on the road. You all rock!

It's been a great vacation...been cold..but as we now enter the July ovens of the eastern US; we miss the cool and even cold more:eek1. Thank you again...

    again,
i know i'm late to this party
    great rr
    enjoyed every moment

i'd love to hear more about your thoughts regarding the CAR TIRE CONVERSION
and how the hack road on this trip as opposed to the one out west.....
not taking into consideration the axle issues

    thanks, as always, in advance

    Hi Greg....

The trip to Newfoundland and back went flawlless. This trip of course had the standard trailer axle bearing that almost all sidecars now have or always had.
On the Alaska trip I had a different axle design where the spindle was attached to the wheel and the axle shaft rotated inside the mainframes hub which carried the races. What caused the shearing of the shaft on my Alaska trip is debatable to no end!
Regarding the car tire conversion: great tire life; more surface grip. The downside of having a car tire is that they are not so easy to find when in need of one unless you haul a spare which I am trying to avoid or have one shipped to your destination from who carries your size.

Carrying a spare is alway san option. Some will get a tire box it up and have it ready to ship to wherever with a friend at home. Another option is that WalMart does carry tires and if one os ordered it can be waaiting for you at any walmart store on a proposed route...interesting

    Ach Du Lieber... Wunderbar!!
Thank you Caude for the tip regarding WalMart. Do they sell 165/15? If I do the TAT trip..hhmmnn...WallyM is surely not nearby on roads less traveled. BUT I can always give you a ring :D and have UPS send me yours to places like here.. :wave.....
