I designed and built my own airbox to solve the problem of the stock one always getting soaked and blocked with snow.

The box is mounted to the right side of the bike (using the top motor mount and the unused alternator mount hole) and a length of CEET tubing takes the intake air from the box down to a plenum chamber mounted in the stock airbox location. It uses a flat air filter from a late 90's Camaro, which has twice the filter area of the stock round unit. This has the benefit of lowering the intake air speed and, because the air has to enter the bottom of the box and travel up to the filter and then up to the exit, any moisture snow and/or dirt is handled by gravity. I have over 15,000km on that filter now through all weather conditions and it is still clean.

The whole saga is recorded on my Ural Blog, starting on pg 4 with the "Fri 24 Nov 06" entry and ending at the "Sat 24 Mar 07" entry on pg 5. This pretty much covers all my failed experiments with modifying the stock airbox up to the current setup (my own design)...

The Germans had that idea aboout getting the airfilter out of the way a few years ago. What looks like a helmet on the tank is the air filter.

Mr Powell- what is that sidecar on the Goose? It reminds me of a small Unit.

Wondering about big dogs- do you guys remove the seat bottom, or do the dogs sit with their butts on the seat with theri front feet on the floor?

Elvis goes about 85 lbs. so I take the seat bottom out and put one of her beds in the pan of the car. She stays warm and comfy. To get her used to the car I started to bribe her with a cookie to get in, now she jumps in on command and just either sits up or lays down for the ride. She is going for longer and longer rides as she gets used to it.
