I had metal shop in high school !!! 20+ years ago,,,,lol. So I'm afraid my ability to drink beer far surpasses my ability to weld

Ha! Same here in metal shop 20 years ago. Now I wish I hadn't spent all my time spot welding squares of sheet metal to make Ninja stars.
My beer drinking is one of the few things I do which I would be considered proficient.

Seriously think about an auto darkening helmet.
i had my 14yo granddaughter in the shop this summer and she was running some very acceptable MIG welds after a 10 minute tutorial...then she welded a bunch of geometric shaped cutoffs into an artmetal "TOPGUN" trophy for the upcoming shootoff.
like any welding, it gets a little more challenging when out of position, little access for the nozzle, or light gauge material.
it's more difficult to correctly design and fabricate the parts of the assembly, and then hold the desired alignment, than it is to MIG weld them together.
can't be hard to learn if a 14yo girl can weld in 10 minutes.
Well if a 14 yo girl can do it, I stand 1/2 a chance.
Here is what I bought.
besides a good helmet, if you go by a welding supply, get a can of nozzle dip, a spray can of anti splatter, wire lube with the felt lube discs, and a package of spare tips in your wire size if you didn't get spares with the purchase.
guys are turning out lots of work with those smaller MIG units these days.
with our humid coastal weather, the wire lube is a must for smooth and uniform wire feed, saves your liner too. you'll be changing tips if you don't use nozzle dip, it really works. antisplatter saves time.
start with the owner's manual (online if you don't have it) recommended settings for the material you're working with, and besides the appearance of the weld, you'll know the settings are correct when the sound is a uniform sizzle...like fish frying in the pan, you can't mistake it.

Can everyone here do me a favor? A BIG favor? Can you all check your tire pressures and make sure they're not absurdly low? Had 3 bikes come in to the shop today with less than 15lbs of air in the tires. :eek1 I have trouble understanding how any of them couldn't notice how difficult it was to steer.
I know dealerships have a certain reputation that people lean towards, but if I told you all about half the stuff we see come in, your bottom jaw would have rug-burn. Good Lord. :huh

Not yet. I'd really like to get a new front tire on there, and maybe steering head bearings before I head out in the dirt. But maybe not.
Anyway, I'm moving this weekend (HATE moving), so all my free time is shot anyway.

Hey on the stalling...just make sure you run 2-3 full tanks of Shell Premium thru the tank. It works great with little expense to clean the carbs & fuel system. I personally would run that plus some 44K from BP Products thru it. That stuff is expensive but worth every penny and you don't need much, so you can put some in a car to clean it out.
Just remember when you run anything thru that cleans the injectors and or carbs, it will loosen up stuff every where else. This might cause cause some hesitation at acceleration. This is why I push more towards 3 full tanks. This will push everything thru and clean it well.
I also recommend running the Shell Premium every chance you get. I read a fuel comparison in Roundel Magazine a while back, showed the results of running different fuels and which worked best in the US...
