    Yo, Inmates,
On a run from Boston to Santa Fe in middle of May, we're good with the plan to Harrisonburg VA to Boone TN, but would welcome suggestions on good ways to break up the ride from Boone to Fontana Dam (or Robbinsville) to Chattanooga (via Cherahola Highway). Thanks!

I'd head west into WV and pick a good twisty road down to Tazewell. Once in Tazewell take 16 south. It's only a 30 mile stretch but probably the best 30 miles you'll find east of the Miss. Head west from Harrisonburg on 220 and take 219 to Tazewell. Sure it'll take a lot longer than the interstate but you'll enjoy the ride 10 fold.

Whoops, sorry, just reread and see you're looking for a route below Boone.

Depending on your timing you have lots of options from NE Tn to the Tail and then on to Chattanooga. I recommend www.tailofthedragon.com as an area planning resource. Good maps of all of the popular roads and info on the sights, camping, etc.
One thing you might consider is going east from Boone and picking up the Blue Ridge Parkway. Just a thought.
    Hava good ride,
