Hey everybody. I have a question & it might be stupid, but I just want to know how to do it, if possible. I have a dog & we are inseparable for more than a day. I would choose her over my bike. Is there a safe way that she can ride with me. My bike is a 2015 Tiger 800 xcx. Has anyone tried riding with their 4 legged friend?

There are numerous pics of dogs and bikes... so Yes... it can be done.
Would help a LOT to know if you're talking Chi-wow-wow or Mastiff though!!!

Me? Would need a sidecar or trailer for my 90lb Golden... but he would love it!!! :-)

Goldens are awesome. I have a 3 year old Corgi & she weighs 20lbs. Thanks for your reply. I do not think I will ride her...if we went down, I would feel guilty if she got hurt.

I want a hack just so I can take my 110lb shepherd. Seems like it would be fun.

I hauled my Malemute/Great Pyrenees mix all over the country with me. I pulled a trailer and her kennel was on top. She weighed about 140 lbs.

My Chi-wow-wow Max Biaggi rides in a travel crate on the rear rack of my 76 Airhead. Cargo net and ratchet strap hold it secure. A bungee cord across the door just in case. A hefty trash bag fits over the crate in case of rain. Small bowl for water and fuel/food. He loves to ride and is easy to handle take care of during the ride. More and more pet friendly places make life easier also.

I've got a new buddy in the house, a Pug/Corgi/Shepherd mix that came to us last fall....I've been training him to get along on the bike and he's really starting to dig it, and we're working towards being able to do longer rides/trips. That's the goal, anyway. I haven't sorted out how to get him and the gear there, but that's all do-able.

Here is his latest "test" (goggles + distractions). He passed. Next test, both of us wearing helmets. lol

    It's so funny.
The dog stick sticks its head out to the side like it's a car window.
I hope you and buddy have a great time riding.

He looks nervous, I guess that harness is strapping him to the bike? or is he strapped to you? What happens in a tip over? If he sees another dog or maybe a cat, is he going to try to get off?

I would love to try this with my Lab but it doesn't look even remotely safe. What happens if his foot slips off the seat?

I too noticed a bit of anxiety early in the video. Going what 30mph? Appreciate the Doggles.

I hate to see when kids and animals get hurt. Roadside accidents suck, but that possibility is the choice we make.

My dog loves to ride with me, problem is he's kinda a asshole, well he loves me dearly but doesn't care much for anyone else. It works good to keep my stuff safe if I go in to pee at the gas station. :)

Nah, wasn't nervous he was digging it....his little head goes a mile a minute in every direction in the car or when we walk. We were heading to the dog park, he practically pisses himself with excitement when I put the box on the bike and get his goggles out. That was important to getting him quickly used to it...the destination is always something desirable. Since that vid we've done 6-7 trips and no problems.

He's in a heavy padded tool crate I have bolted to the rack, which comes about halfway up his body. The harness has a cable lead that attaches at his chest and ties him to the bottom of the box. He has room to move around a bit, but he can't jump out of the box. He doesn't seem interested at all in other dogs or distractions once he's on there, even on that ride we passed other dogs and some rabbits in yards and he didn't make a move.

The tip-over thing worries me, for both of us, can't deny that...but his little box offers some protection and his harness is pretty secure.

    Here's what it looks like...

Just ordered him a nice little custom-fit helmet, too.

This guy showed at the Central Rally last summer. He's an inmate here. From NC maybe? Anyway, that crate is permanently mounted and the mount is hinged so he can get at storage underneath. He and that dog tour the country on that Super Ten.

I was wondering about ear protection too, They make doggie helmets? Like an Arai?

I took my golden retriever car camping (1971 Camaro) to Anza Borrego State Park in CA. I got there about 10PM and paid my fee at the gate and the dog was sitting in the front passenger seat. I set up my tent and went to sleep. The next morning the same lady ranger that I paid the night before walked up to me and asked if that was my dog. I said yes and she asked to see rabies vaccination papers. I told her that isn't something I normally travel with and I was kicked out of the park. I protested that she shouldn't have taken my money the night before but she said she thought I was with my girlfriend. WTF? Even I have standards. If you travel with your dog make sure you have ALL your proper papers for it.
