Kenda Big Block. I really like the Mefo Super Explorer, but they're too expensive. I told Doug to order me something that doesn't cost $200, and this is what he bought for me.

The big block looks sweet, I think I seen yours sitting at Doug's several wks ago. Looks like a better off-road tire than the mefo too. I currently have a Pirelli scorpion xcmh. Thinking about taking it off and quickly finding a mt21, d606 or similar.

Yeah my Pirelli scorpion is great off-road but I don't think it's built to last all that long and I just realized I had 900 miles on it. The super cheap kenda k270 has caught my eye. decisions decisions...

D606 rear. Pirelli scorpion rally front. Really like this combo other than replacing the rear every 2500 miles.

By the way I discovered the Baja no pinch tire tool. If you change your own tires it's worth every penny.

I have the K270 on my XT250. Good tire but definitely more road oriented than a D606

Realizing I don't have enough room for 8 days of socks, t-shirts and underwear. Hopefully there's a place to do laundry in Ouray.

I ordered the exact same front and rear for my dads drz 400 and im also running the Pirelli scorpion rally ft. I drove his bike on the street, gravel and ft dodge ohv park. I agree, solid tire combo.

I'm certainly not taking 8 days of clothing. You may have to strap me to the trailer on the way home.

It may not be kosher for a KTM rider to mention Charlie Boorman, but it's hard to argue with his method of maximizing thunderwear usage

Odd things I have packed, just in case this helps some of you ditch some weight:
    • A "Tour-Prop" that acts as a second kick stand for non-center stand bikes.
    • A Motion Pro Bead Breaker
    • Tire irons
    • 18" tube and 21" tube (but no patch kit).
    • A Slime tire pump (just the pump -- a hack I learned from some KLR dudes)
    • A tomahawk, because sometimes you need a tomahawk
    • Two Ducati tow ropes (nylon straps used to ship Ducati bikes from the factory. Best free tow ropes ever!).
    • A multimeter, because I'm anal.
    • Spare 690 rocker arms, because I ride a 690.
    • Spare 690 fuel pump, because I ride a 690.
    • Coffee.
    • A JetBoil w/fuel canister & food & various silicone cooking/eating thingies.
    • Bear spray, because when you need bear spray, you NEED bear spray, and if you cook with the JetBoil near your tent, you most likely will need bear spray.
    • Toilet paper. And if you ask, no, I don't have any.

FYI: Temp predictions have shot up in Moab. Prepare for riding with gear in 101° temps. :knary

It wasn't s good start for me. My long term worrying vibration issue seemed to be linked to my pressure plate wobbling at idle, so thought I better investigate before taking off.

Didn't find anything obvious so far. Bolted back together and headed out through Fort Collins, Walden and Steamboat to meet the rest of the crew in Eagle

This thread is greatly in need of an update. I'll throw in some pix and comments soon, but as a prelude, this was the best adventure of my 30+ years on bikes of all kinds.
Very thankful for all the help and encouragement from Orange, Engineman, Vipers and Greg. Vipers in particular always seemed to be there to help pick up my usually overloaded 990 (I think I limited my get-offs to 5, with no injuries and only a broken mirror, and ego). We took our bikes to a few places more suited to 250's or rock-crawlers and managed to help each other through. Good times. Good times.
