How many "original points" were there, and can there even be more than one original point? Because you mentioned two. Also, who's original point- your's or the actual threads? Lastly, maybe I just wanted to make my own point...

I say that all in jest, not being a prick. Honestly, I get what you're saying about pride in one's Country, globalization, parroting,etc...I get it 100%. Personally, I don't give a damn if the US ever went global or not. I absolutely love my Country, our soldiers and I have a lot of pride in it all. If we stayed on our own soil and remained 100% self sufficient I would be content. I would miss the hell out of my Japanese motorcycles, but I'd be content.

But in complete honesty, I don't think the "original points" of this thread that you are deciding to view as original or pertinent is actually the original point at all. OP named the thread what he did to obviously poke fun at THE American Icon building bikes in Asia. All the talk about ethics, "bad" governments, nuclear war,etc...I think that's just something stuck in YOUR crawl, not everyone's. So in that respect, yeah, I think I did touch on the original point of the thread vs following the rabbit trails that developed later.

    You nailed it.

Companies set up shop in countries favorable to manufacturing and sales given trade agreements, import tariffs, content rules, etc. They do this to remain competitive and bring manufacturing closer to the market. BMWs and japanese cars manufactured in NA are generally destined for domestic sales.

As has been mentioned, the MoCo is moving production of smaller displacement bikes to their intended point of sale for financial reasons (profit) and in the interests of shareholders. Don't think you'll see a FLH assembly line in Asia anytime soon.

I’ve already disclosed in this thread that I’ve owned a series of retro Triumphs.

Nice to see you’re up with the play.

Well said. The Harley faithful didn't embrace the V-Rod, which was built in the KC plant. Now, they cry foul because the plant is closing. I feel bad for the people losing jobs.

Seriously! It was SUPER foggy that night, I was coming back from New England where my girlfriend at the time lived (bootycall weekend) and it was Sunday night - Monday morning 1:30 AM. I got off the highway and I'm tooling down 174 with not a car on the road for the last 30 minutes or so, can't see 100 feet in front of me, when suddenly this HORSE comes running down the center of the road out of the fog like something out of Sleepy Hollow! I didn't even realize there was a black cart with no lights being driven by a guy with a black suit on and a giant beard for a couple seconds... the horse's eye went right past my driver's window - I honestly thought that horse was going to run up my hood. The cart wheel went up off the ground as I went by and a bale of hay landed in the road. I got stopped and turned around to see if he was OK and found the hay bale, but I could hear the clippity clop of the horse going away in the distance - he never even stopped. It was honestly pretty scary.
