My XL600 dropped a valve seat, it didn't grenade the engine thank god It started making random noises but ran fine until it kinda quit running one day. Wouldn't start for shit, excellent compression, spark and gas, just wouldn't do. it when i did get it started you can hear the valve seat moving around in there., kinda like a ratchet spinning really fast Anyway I pulled the engine but I haven't disassembled it. My problem is I would like to go to an engine machine shop myself to minimize down time.Everything is in my brother's garage lol not mine so i would to get the bike running again. I could ship it off I know but I'd prefer not to do that. I atleast bent a valve and need two new exhaust seats andvalves. None of the car guys will touch it :huh

Any good machine shops around here?? I was thinking of XRs only :dunno

They are often mentioned in other forums as the only shop qualified to repair KLR heads after the cam journals have been ruined from lack of oil.
    Which is common, unfortunately.

I figure I'd update for the lurkers....

Long story short, I stripped a few bolt holes, met an awesome local machinist, got a replacement head, and got machine work for way cheaper than XR's only or anybody else can do.

Cool deal. Looks like you got it fixed by someone local. Good on you.

I use local myself. I don't like sending stuff UPS because I read it on a forum. I use Q&E.

They do anything from mild to wild. Just a short drive across town. Cars motors, powersports, and everything in between.

Cycle Wizard?? Hmmmm. I would not even consider them as no contact info. A fancy picture of a head just does not do it for me.

Really. Just because Cycle Wizard doesn't have a web site you shouldn't doubt his work. Your loss.

Yes. 2mm stroke Falcion rod, +6mm custom piston, custom cam, his combustion chamber magic, BIG valves and of course ported 'n polished, back cut all of the transmission gears.
