I need to unplug! I'm heading to the north Ga Mountains this weekend for a little R&R&R ( Rest, Riding, and Relaxation )

My riding buddy ( Jeff ) and I are packing up the klr and the DR and I will be heading up to Suches Friday night or Saturday morning.

Instead of Super Slabbing through Atlanta we'll be trucking the bikes and gear( beer ) up there. We'll be camping around Blue Ridge WMA down around the suspension bridge somewhere. If you see a red truck with a bunch of decals on it..............with a flat tire............ that will be us ;) Stop in and have a beer........... or two :freaky

Maybe we'll see you up there ;)

I went to load up the bikes and the klr wouldn't run without the choke :(
Hell of a way to start off a weekend!!

Three weeks ago I had to pull the carb because of this shitty ethanol gas and sure enough, same problem!! Had to pull the carb and clean out a plugged idle jet :(

Hopefully she'll stay running through the weekend, otherwise there will be more drinking than riding :)

After a long slow drive up the very windy mountain rd leading to Suchers we finally reached Hatchery Rd.

After a short ride up the dirt rd we found our regular campsite taken by an old couple and a noisy little ankle biter of a dog, no biggie there are lots of campsites up around this area so on to Plan B! We drove up the service roads and found a nice little shaded site next to a small creek and within i a matter of ten minutes we had the truck unloaded and the tent up and ready to hit the dirt.

After a quick beverage to celebrate our arrival at camp and a short discussion on where we were headed, it decided since this was going to be a short ride we'd just go exploring the area. You could spend days wandering around up there and never touch the same dirt twice. Once we grabbed our camera gear and mounted the go Pro to the back of my sons bike we hit the dirt.

The road conditions were perfect! The rain the night before kept the dust down and made for pretty good traction. It also made for a few nice mud holes.

Anyone could drive around the mud, but what fun would that be. We came up here to have a good time and that was exactly what we were going to do. :clap

I should probably take a second to introduce my son Michael, he decided last minute he wanted to join us on our mountain ride and with him recently joining the Marines I figured this was going to be one of our last rides together for awhile and jumped at the chance to spend a little time together before he leaves for basic training.:kumbaya

    Ok back to the report!

After a short play in the mud, we headed to the suspension bridge. The bridge crosses the Toccoa River and is part of the Appalachian trail system. We had to park the bikes and walk a short distance to get to the bridge, but a trip up here without stopping and seeing the bridge just didn't feel right.

After a short pee break Jeff noticed that there was a geo cache not far from the bridge so we decided since we were this close to take a hike up the mountain and do the cache.

I had done this cache back on 6-11-06 but still had a hard time locating it's hiding place. We signed the book and took a short cut though the woods back to the bikes.

Mikey decided he'd hop on the back of the KLR and give Jeff some bar time on the DR.

You can tell by the smile on Jeff's face he was excited to get off the KLR and on his own bike. I don't think he trust me :lol3

Mine did but the dealer tag shredded itself on the rear tire and we spoke with the ranger sunday morning and went over the legalities of what was needed to make the DR street legal. Very nice guy.......... it could have went much worse than it did. He just told us to make sure the DR was legal before bringing it back up there.

Yeah those dealer tags don't last very long. I reckoned it wouldn't have taken long for you to meet a ranger where you were camping, that place is too heavily populated with trout humpers. You're pretty lucky he didn't ticket you.

He was actually really nice and only gave us a verbal. It was worth it though to get to spend some time with my son before he's off to boot camp. Hopefully by the time he's back from Paris Island I'll have DR street legal for him.

Great way to spend some time with your son. He certainly has a big adventure ahead of him.

When then engineer designed the rear fender & license plate holder for the KLR, he must of been on something. KLRs are known for eating their license plates. I had to relocate mine AND bend the tag back.

That Single track you rode was probably not legal, if the ranger caught you, it would be a ticket.

Good report so far, looking forward to the rest.

I was thinking the same thing about the single track but it looked like someone else had ridden up it recently and there wasn't the normal "Foot Travel Only" sign you see on must of those trail heads.
