Hey Renner. Good to hear you'll be visiting our isles. I don't need anything brought over tho thanks:D

travelling by rail? Not the usual way to travel over here as the train service is fun but not particularly practical. you'd be better off renting a car or van to see the out of the way places. It'll be a reasonably busy time to travel as it's smack bang in the middle of our summer holidays. Also the trains only really go down the centre of the Nth island & east coast of the Sth Island.

Actually thinking about it - can the train idea it'll be really inhibiting.

Could you do a quick detour via Florida to pick up all my bits from mapcycles, does not look far on google maps. :lol3

Are you a train tragic ? If you are coming into AK you will end up training to Wgtn & the back up to the Wairarapa. Picton to ChCh on a train would be pretty nice & the Alpine express is raved about
There are worse ways to travel. Padders could have been your tour guide.
    Look where that gets you

    Thanks all.
flying in & out of Auckland.

We'd planned to rent a car.
GF (Angela) doesn't have much pillion time (~15min.) and likes to fall asleep on curvy roads so the moto option is sort of marginal.

Anyway, Angela also likes to save money, so she hit on the idea of travel by rail.
I checked NZ rail and saw that passenger service is down... and somewhat limited otherwise... still possible that we'll rent a car I suppose.

We'd hoped to spend over a week on the south island.

I'll be sure to lobby for car rental, especially once we've set foot on the south island.

Voltaire, congrats on the championship win. very inspirational.

I have a swb /5 coming together as a track bike, recently finished painting the frame.
With no track time yet, I'm setting the bike up to run AHRMA Novice Historic Production here, which offers limited modifications.

cool another airhead racer, that AHRMA racing looks to be very popular. There is a guy on the main forum called Mykill who gave me some useful info last year.

Have a great time while you are here and if you are into craft beers there is a lot to choose from.:D
