I'll sure miss his place too. I think you missed this line in my post: "Unfortunately, he just closed Tellico Motorcycle Outfitters last week..." It's good to know he'll still be maintaining the trails, though.

You, going 70-75 mph on a dirt road? :eek1 :lol3 We rode over to check out the national enduro between North and Salley last Sunday on part of the MEOW. I'd been watching video from Sandblast and was in the mood, so ....... it was a fun ride over!

Please note that Old State Road has been closed. I have not edited the GPX file which is attached to post #13 in this thread for that. It's near the northern end of the MEOW and was a fun piece of dirt adjacent to the Congaree that ran from the Saxe Gotha area, under I-77 and on up into Cayce. It parallels 12th Street Extension, which you can take instead, which is where Amazon, Nephron Pharmaceuticals, etc. are located and is a pleasant ride, though paved.

We've got some guys who are wanting to ride some of these SCDIRT routes this weekend- 11/22 and/or 11/23. Anyone else planning to ride? We're GPS newbies, so it would be great to follow some folks who won't get too lost!

THis is awesome. MY wife and I are originally from Abbeville County (Lowndesville and Due West) and we come down yearly. Planning on being down there this year over the Xmas holidays and am bringing the r12gs with me to do some exploring. Let me know if anyone wants to guide me ;-)

I imagine y'all are swamped in pretty good. My cousin posted a video of his property flooded and someone drove by in the vid, and hydro'd as they passed by. It's raining here now in fact… but I'll make sure to bring the sun when I come down!

ETA: BTW, that bridge picture you posted looks familiar. Is that near Abbeville? When my wife and I were dating there was a bridge out her way we called the crybaby bridge, due to being haunted by a crying baby… I gotta work on dirt roads between Lowndesville/Due West and Abbeville now. I know a bunch around Calhoun Falls, though some of it got paved a few years back thanks to the Corp of Engineers around Lake Russell.

I believe the bridge in my pic is a good bit south of Abbeville, in the southern half or possibly middle area of the figure 8 "Monkee Loop".

The bridge on iron bridge road could be the one in question. Take 378 east out of McCormick a couple miles and it just south of the highway, off the Christian Rd loop.

It just so happens that the TET-S route passes right next to my wife's parents place in Lowndesville SC. So gonna ride TET-S into the Dirt Loop, and maybe on down to FLA to see my Mom. Or go the other way up North for another day of riding. Either way, I am set now I think. Will haul the bike down in Dec depending on when my son gets home on leave as that is determining if we make it to SC this year or not. I believe the bridge I am referring to is the one outside McCormick! Will find it.

Interesting story! sdthorpe was right about the one in my pic being on Iron Bridge Rd. It's just off of the GPX route. If you're headed north you'll see it easily. If you're headed south and fail to look to the right when turning onto Iron Bridge Rd you could miss it.

Visiting family in Lowndesville, SC. TETs goes right by their house. I am trailering the bike down since I'll have the whole family and dogs with us. Hoping to ride Sumpter NF sometime between Sunday and Christmas Day. If anyone wants to go ride and show me around some, let me know. I can meet up in Abbeville, Calhoun Falls, McCormick etc.

Well I got a late start today. I had to walk my dogs and unload the bike... plus it was cold in SC this AM!!! guess I brought that from Yankee land :-). I didn't get any takers to ride with today from here or AARSE group :-( [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

Rode TET-S route to the Monkee loop and just stopped in Abbeville. My wife and I got married here 29 years ago. I miss it TBH. Enjoying my lunch at Marie's and then pushing on.

I hope you had a great ride! It was a beautiful day after the chill wore off. I had to work some, do some running around for Christmas, then cook a macaroni pie for a fire dept. party. If it weren't for all that I would've joined you.

Well that was an adventure! Left Marie's grabbed some gas and continued the route. Came to a road closed sign, but it was sort of moved out of the way, so continued on. Then found out why, the bridge had been under water, but it wasn't anymore, so rode on.
    [IMG][IMG]

A few technical parts on each side of the bridge, but no problems. I came across several horseback riders, shut down for them and let them pass, and continued on. Things where great. One of the roads had the "end county maintenance" signs and got reacquainted with SC red mud, but still good!

Almost back to 378 I think, and started wondering when I was gonna see the bridge that Wawa had photo'd, then I came across this.

Hmm not going through that. It was deep in the middle and SOFT on the sides. This is where the "fun" started...

Looking for routes I did manage to see this beautiful quarry pond.

So I had great cell phone coverage all day, checked it and using google maps, re-routed and tried to make my way back to 378. Every path led to a dead ends or a gate. Ended up back tracking to here.

Called the wife to tell her I was good and heading back. Punched in the addy into the GPS and started on. It had me taking 67, and then turning on to a dirt road... Google maps says Long Cane Rd, but the sign said "something" cemetery rd. GPS said follow it for 14 miles! Well I made it one. Went through one mud hole, no prob, passed a crossroads that was actually on the track, but I was heading home. Came across another muddy hole... no way was I gonna make it. U-turned it, took a wrong turn, road ended, but I could see on my GPS where I needed to go, so kept on. Then I came to a creek. Hmm there was a drop off, but thought I could make it... and I almost did. Buried the rear with the bike between two trees on each side. I was stuck. Couldn't lay over the bike to fill my rut with rocks, couldn't get my bags off either. No prob, grab the come-along. It's not there, it's in my trailer at the house. No cell coverage either. I left the bike and walked out, got to spotty cell coverage... Coyotes howling and its dark now. TURNED ON AVOID DIRT ROADS ON GPS! Called my wife, sent her my location, and please bring my come-along!!! She showed up an hour later, with the boys, and we walked back in and recovered the bike. Rode it back in 35F temps and had dinner at 10. That was the most fun I have had since wheeling 25 years ago. I am sore, tired, but home and warm, and the bike is a mess, but no damage.

:yikes I'm glad you're OK! The spot with water all the way across the road where you turned around looks suspiciously like where, when inmate Wlfman and I approached it in February 2013, he just immediately gassed his DRZ and zoomed up on the banked part, a-la-wall-of-death style. I stayed below and slogged through the water and mud on my DR. That was before I started riding trials, and I'd like to think I'd have the nerve to scoot up on the banking on the DR today, but I dunno, if things went south that would be a lot more weight to deal with, and your GS is heavier yet.

Coyotes recently made it to the woods by my house, and my pet cat has been missing for a week now. That's an eerie experience when you can hear a pack of them howling in the dark all around you but you can't see them. I'd like to meet the brainiac(s) in our state government who intentionally introduced non-native species like the coyote and beaver here.

that's funny, I actually considered riding up the wall on the left. The barbed wire fence made me reconsider!

That's what I did, on my drz. A big bike would have been a different story.
