An old open-pit coal mining rotary excavator.

Yes - an old excavator (baby size) from the open coal mine near Helmstedt, northern Germany.
This is a view to the mine:
All the coal will be used up within the next years and the mine will be closed - together with the power plant (in the background) that converts the coal into electricity.

Later this year I'll try to visit Ferropolis where they have the 'real stuff' on display.

No idea it was there before I found it... I needed a place to pull over and throw on the rain gear before a deluge started. Just happened to have been right there.
I've got a few somewhere next to a mate's harley but can't find them at the mo...this will have to do for now...
I worked on this truck as a rep for our company. It was a 250 ton unit powered by an EMD 2500 HP engine. The company I worked for was Komatsu and the truck was used in an open pit copper mine near Kamloops, BC. It was always fun to visit the mine but not so much fun to work on this beast outside in the winter.
