I'm slow today, forgive me :scratch (still suffering jet-lag). What could be achieved by pinching the two beads together, while on the rim...?

And, yes, you're absolutely correct, that method would keep the beads in the center of the rim. But, then what...?

:1drinkIf you've tried mounting tires, you know that when going from tire completely off rim to completely on rim, the first bead goes on relatively easy. You probably don't need levers with most tires. Getting the second bead on is harder because you are twisting the tire to keep one side of the second bead in the middle of the rim while you lever the other side over the rim. With the tire completely off the rim, strap the beads together and the whole tire should be as easy as the first bead to get on the rim.

Mind you, I have not tried this so it's strictly theoretical to me at this point but it sounds good.:evil

Once it's on the rim, you don't need to pinch the beads together. The whole thing is about making it easier to get the tire on the rim.

Tangentially related, a handful of long zip ties is also a good short term solution to a flat dirtbike tire...

Ahhh, thanx for your patience and explaining in detail. Interesting indeed :scratch. Would be worth a trial next time when changing rubbers.

how does the tube come into play?
with tubeless tires i can see this, but once both beads are on the tube must be in already in place with the valve stem lined & straight through the rim.

You betcha! I ordered them a while ago but they had problems of the container sitting on the dock in California. It took a while but the wait was worth it.

I've given up on Heidenaus for my 800GS. I'm gonna stick with TKCs for the time being. At least I can get those. And in the right sizes.

I just ordered a TKC 80 rear from motorcycle-superstore.com for 168.00 delievered. Not too bad of a price.

    And it is a 150/70.

    God Bless,
    David

swmototires.com has the rear for a little less. Chaparral has a nice price on the front.

The TKCs aren't the most expensive tire around, but they're not cheap. And I get half the life out of a rear that I do from regular street tires.

But then, real knobbies probably last about 1/3 that of a TKC...

I can't believe I actually scored one of these.

Somebody else called right when I was placing the order, but they were just a few seconds too late.

I was just waiting for UPS to drop off a TKC 80 rear while I waited for moto amore to get their next shipment of K60s in.

I guess I'll be selling a new TKC 80 rear soon.

Thanks for the heads-up John. Dave said you were quite surprised to see the Heidenaus in his shop today. I think he said your words were, "holy sh**." :D

I might have had a similar response in your situation.

    God Bless,
    David
