    hi all

    sigh

    long story short.....

bike off road for two years now....TT2000 is coming up want to do this again - had a blast on the inaugral back in '09.

i have a garmin 2610 which was helpful in routing and also maintaining an eye on my overall average speed to keep within time limits.

thing is i haven't really used the 2610 since the TT and now i have a new computer - two drives, the original 500gb on and a new 1.5tb drive.

I use NZ Open Gps maps and thought yesterday in a flash of inspiration that I'd update my maps with the latest version.

here's the nub: i cant seem to find the Mapsource program file...I search in the old drive and find there are two applications:

    MapSource_6134 size 45mb

    MapSource _6102 size 16.3mb

when i click to open the first one i get the wee pop-up asking if i want to run MapSource_6134.exe so click 'run', I get the Blue Garmin box saying "Welcome to the MapSource Web update" " Please click next to begin the installation of your software"

(bearing in mind I already have Mapsource...)

I click 'next' and accept the terms n agreement and get an immediate pop-up saying "Previous Mapsource not found! Setup will terminate"

Effectively the same results eventuate with the 6102.exe as well.

    ARGH!

I guess this is what you get when you combine and techno NON geek and a new computer AND a software program I havent used for effectively 3 years+!

    anyone able to help?

even better - anyone in Christchurch? I can pay you in cups of tea and the best chocolate brownie you've ever eaten!!??

    Sigh

    Shane

    :pep:kboom

    ps - i cant even spell computer properly......FFS! :-)

I suspect you're trying to run program updates (rather than an installation), which can't find the original program.

The Garmin website shows a link to the latest version. Try downloading and installing this: click here

Let me know of that works, if not we'll dig a bit further.

Alternativly you could download and install BaseCamp. Its supposed to be betterer and gooderer than Mapsource
(But I am open to debate on that) :deal

If you had to install or reinstall your operating system when upgrading to this new computer of which you speak then you will indeed need to install Mapsource all over again.
Just because it was/is on the old hard drive doesn't mean it is still installed in a working fashion plugged into the operating system especially if you have had to do anything to the operating system during upgrading the PC.
Easiest way is to start back with the original Mapsource CD, install from that then download and install the latest version update and maps. What you download from Garmin will usually be a web update and will look for the original installed from CD first as you are experiencing.
There is a work around somewhere to install the web updates without the earlier install but been a long time since I've done it so don't remember off hand what to do.

I just read that back to myself and won't blame you if you got lost, I almost confused myself.

Click the link below for instructions to install from the web update installer files. You'll still have to download and install the maps again too.

A second option 'apparently' is to install Bsaecamp from the garmin site.
Once that is installed you can install Mapsource with out that pop-up saying "Previous Mapsource not found! problem.
Then install a map and good to go.

    Not tested that myself.
    Good luck.

Found my old City navigator NZ cd and reloaded that - then chased up my old username and password for garmin....

loaded cd, installed Mapsource and now uploaded latest NZ Free GPS maps...

now the only thing is to try and remember how to use the damn program!!! :lol3

    thanks for your help! :clap:clap:clap

Stick with Mapsource. Basecamp has some newer "security" features, which disables some third party products (and stops you loading hacked Garmin maps too :evil).
    Cheers.
