Help! insanely high Idle

    2007 R1200 GS Adventure

    I rode home about 40 miles from work yesterday without incident and parked my bike in the garage. I came out this morning and when I started it it was idling at around 4800 RPM. I shut the bike off and restarted it and still it was at around 4800 RPM.

    Does anyone have any ideas about what might be going on? The only thing I can think of is maybe some sort of throttle sensor got knocked out of position. When I got home last night I noticed the black plastic trim panel on the left side by your knee wasn't all the way in and pushed it into the grommet. Maybe that knocked something loose?

    Always check where the last change was. In your case, the black panel is right near the throttle cable. So get down there and look to make sure it is stilling sitting on the adjuster correctly. Then check the other connections near it if that doesn't solve the problem.

    Sometimes I find Mrs Bull unexpectedly at an insanely high idle.

    Really good advice. This was pretty much the premise of my high school automotive class, I should have listened. I took the panel off and the seat and discovered the throttle cable had come loose from a retainer near the battery.

    Thanks, rational minds prevailed. I was convinced it was computer related somehow since I just got done puttting in a PDM60 and Gerbings dual zone controller that I heavily modified. I can now go back to getting 40 miles a gallon on my way to work.

    One of the things I love about this site is the free and open exchange of ideas that have helped me greatly. You obviously have the right to PM your suggestion and I am not advocating otherwise, but am curious as to why you don't want to share it with us?

    If it is valuable, it should be shared. If it's crap, don't be embarassed.... share that too! :D

    Once, it did happen to me too after an air filter replacement.
    Turns out, that I accidently cornered the right throttle cable (next to the intake tube, above the cylinder) and therefore it was revving higher.
    Check if this is your problem and inspect if the throttle cable moves freely.

    Wasn't sure if my suggestion would solve his problem.

    If it DID...I'd edited my post.

    Unfortunately...it DIDN'T...but I DID ask the OP if he had pics to post so that we could all see the BEFORE and AFTER of these circumstances. Awaiting pics.

    I will take some tonight. There is little to see though. There is just a clip that holds the throttle cable that came loose. i popped it back in and everything was fine.
