Hey all. I am currently creating a powerpoint presentation to present to local driver eduation classes and other civic groups. This presentation is targeted at operators of other vehicles (not motorcyclists) to look twice for motorcycles. I can find statistics etc... but I am looking for some good videos or pics of car vs. motorcycle crashes that would drive the point home. I have looked on youtube for hours, but would like some other stuff that nots typically posted. thought maybe you might be willing to share some of your own private stash for the good of the our fellow motorcyclist.

also if you have any links to any good powerpiont presentations that I could use, I would appreciate it.

    Any help would be appreciated.

This is the best (ummm.. "worst") I've seen.. unfortunately only have this small image.

Classic left turn in front of motorcyclist.

Get in contact with the msf. Most of the organizations like that have material that isn't publically available. Also it will add some credibility to your presentation if you can use them as a source. Might also talk to someone I charge of the riders courses on a military installation for some figures about service men and women

I did that already. Most of their stuff is directed at riders, but I do have one video from them.

In Britian they did some pretty effective awareness spots, I've seen some of them on Youtube. I'm at work and can't access it, or I'd try to find them.

Do you know the details related to the pic? Looks like there has to be more to the story than an errant left turn. That's some serious damage to the car. Bike had to be hauling ass.

Just go to google search and type in "youtube smidsy"

smidsy is an acronym for "sorry mate, I didn't see you"

you'll get lots of hits regarding just what you are looking for.

    Cheers

No details really... it was one of those short news blurbs with minimalist facts. The bike's speed was discussed at length on one of the bike forums though - I personally believe it could have been as low as 50 mph based on what looks like very similar damage to cars in the NHTSA's side impact "pole test" which tends to be ~ 20 mph. A 600 lbs bike/rider has 1/6th the mass of 3,600 lbs and so needs 2.5x the speed to equal the kinetic energy of a 3,600 lb car.

This is a real sign from what is probably the 2nd most famous UK bike pub, The Cat and Fiddle.

It's one of my favourites and I must get around to getting a replica made for my own garage.

I think it sums up motorcycle safety really well. For all the bitching about other road users, SMIDSYs, poor road design, diesel on roundabouts etc. the number one cause of motorcycling deaths is the rider. Usually one that isn't very good and very occasionally, a real Riding God pushing the limits. The other reason we should focus on the rider, is that it's the single factor we have most control over and absolute responsibility for.
