Those of you who have been following This Thread have seen the beast & know what it´s for. But now she needs a paint job, and I need your help. Im looking for something that stands out so I can recognised in the mass of other bikes, preferrably not shreek purple . I thought about an RSA flag, but Im not sold on it. I wouldnt mind having a Wilddog or African theme on the bike either, but I wouldnt know where to start. Perhaps just a nice combination of colours? What do you think?

So are there any photochop masters out there who can give me a hand? If your design is selected, you´ll have your name on the bike. The Rally Dos Sertões is the worlds second longest rally after Dakar and will be held in Brazil August 7-20, 2010. There will be 300 entrants including bikes, cars & trucks. Mine will be one of them. So far Im the only South African rider going.

Take those pictures against a uniform background (e.g., white barn), it'll be easier to edit.

I don't think you can paint the tanks as they "breath and sweat". If that's the case I'd go with a white paint to match the whitish tank. Then some decals or a coloured paint scheme over to of it with the white being the background color. But I agree with the others the colours you chopped look the biz.

Yeah, I think it will end up being stickers (with holes!!) on the tank, matching the paintjob/stickers on the fairing and front bit.

If that's the case then the rest of the bike (or just fairing) with the flag and sponsor stickers on the tank?
Surely there is a method of painting them as plenty of people do (KTM for example). Didn't JMo paint her tank for the Tunisia rally?

JMo only painted her fairing & wheel arch.

Here is another option done by another SA enthusiast..

The tank breathes and any paint job will bubble. The ktm tanks are built differently. JMo didn't paint hers. What people do to get around it is apply a decal that is perferated with tiny holes to let the tank breath. It won't last fporever but will for some time.

I still think white to match the tanks :evil

Yeppers, the idea is to use decals, and paint the fairing and fender one color to reduce costs.

Hey Bluebull - only just seen this thread (erm, because I've just got back from Tunisia of course... x)...

I know you mentioned the flag idea before (and I love it) but perhaps you need to think laterally, or rather vertically...

If you painted the SA flag from face on - ie. one fairing side red and the other blue, the green Y either side of the headlight (following the shape of the fairing itself) and the yellow V around the lamp with the front panel above the light black (see what I'm saying? - sorry, no photoshop) I think it would work really well, and you'd only have to paint the fairing...

In fact you could just paint the fairing white (as already suggested) and use coloured vinyl panels to make up the flag instead, which would be dead cheap to do?

I'm going to do something similar with the Welsh flag for my next event, as the blue held up well, but the bike did get a few knocks, and after your idea, I think mine would work really well with a green lower half and white upper, with a red dragon on each side (instead of a red bull!)...

    J xx

btw. please send me a PM regarding Dos Sertoes - I just might be interested in joining you in August too!
