Help with an oil change.

    I am borrowing my brothers 2007 HD Dyna Wide Glide and I need to change the fluids. Does anyone have a pdf of the owners manual or step by step instructions on how to do the engine oil, primary, and transmission fluid? What about recommendations for fluids, HD brand or go to the auto parts store?

    Use H-D fluids and filters, it just makes life easier. Also get the gasket kit that goes along with the service, will include the quad ring for the derby cover and o-rings for the drain plugs. The primary drain is right under the derby cover, the engine oil drain is on the left of the oil pan, pointing horizontal and the transmission plug is on the right of the oil pan pointing down. Engine takes approx. 2.5 qts, primary and trans each take a quart. I'd recommend Syn-3 in all of 'em. You'll need their special cut-out oil filter wrench to avoid destroying the CKP, or just take it out before attemping to remove the oil filter.

    No big deal really.

    Make sure you are removing the drain plug and not one of the tapered tooling hole plugs. A buddy of mine made this mistake and ended up cracking the engine when over tightening the plug.:eek1

    The fluid change is not much different from a car's. But, I'm not going to watch 29 minutes of you tube videos to tell you they will work on your motorcycle. Harley has not changed their engines much for several years.

    You'll need a small funnel for the transmission fluid, and I find a turkey baster is great for the primary. As the amount needed is less than an even quart, I suck the non-needed amount out of the quart bottle, and then put the rest in the primary. The turkey baster helps here too, as by removing the bulb off the end, you have a funnel to add the primary fluid to the primary. Another tip, get a 4x4, 6x6, 2x4, or some combination to slip under the right side of your frame. You'll have to figure out how much. Push the motorcycle over on the boards, and it will lean that way as if there was a kick stand on the right side. makes adding fluid to the primary very easy. Getting the oil filter off and on can be a bear. Go ahead and get a proper wrench for that.
