    not a drz problem,,
    a mik-coo-knee problem, I'm guessing.
    but that's just it,,I'm guessing!:dunno
If my buddy Dennis,RIP,,(of "Dr.D" fame) were still alive, he'd fix it!
He was a true blue MECHANIC, ran the Oregon Mobile Tune work van for years. He could make anything run!,,ANYTHING!,,even steam engines,,miss you buddy!

I got a number I can call. It'll work out one way or another, fix it, sell it, buy another carb, or ride it as is and have it fail just after you realize that the lane you just pulled into is now being occupied by the SUV that just changed lanes, and you got no escape power on the throttle cuz the little rice sucker falls on it's fucking face when you gas it!,,so you DIE!,,that might work for me too, but I got a few more things I want to do first,,and then there's the chores,,seems there's never enough time for ALL of it,,I Shirley don't need to add dismantling a frikken KLX 400 to my daily routine!,,,(if it had Kawi badges onnit,,it wouldn't act like this!):lol3

If it was green,,I'd park it close to the KLR,,and there would be bonding, and familial connection, and the little pup would lern from the old dog,,might even end up with a litter of mini-bikes zinging around the shop!

That is not clean nor a one owner... Pass...

Didja check the friggin vents yet? Am I typing to hear the tactile feedback from this friggin keyboard? Do I needta come look for gas leaks with a match?

Sheesh... Maybe you need a Washington Discover PAss to "discover" the problem?

Maybe it is just jealous and needs a hit of that gulch dust from off the floor... take a handful, toss it in the air box and make it choke for real...

    Kids these days....

Check yer pet cock (tee hee).

When I was riding alongside Mr. Cob and his Australian Urinal with the sidecar on the wrong side, he had trouble giving it gas (I won't say go faster because Urinals don't go faster they just make more noise). It would blow black smoke and pop and fizz out of the right jug. He finally ran the tank low enough to pull his pet cock out and it had big flakes of paint in it. Urinal thinks it's real purty to put paint inside the filler, the kind of paint that comes off in nice big hunks as soon as E10 touches it.

Junk in the fuel filter? Junk in the petcock? Or like non-Fisherman says, vacuum hose on the tank that's not letting the air out?

Or put Mikuni between the jaws of a vise and get a pumper. :dunno

while you're checking these check the electrical connections at the plug and all the way back to the signal generator end- maybe corrosion? maybe leaking spark at temp?

Peter does things differently that's for sure. He had a Scotts Oiler setup on his KLR, but had it dump the oil on top of his cylinder, run down the side of the motor and onto the chain... it worked, but man was it smokey!

I think we are all thinking carb.......could be, but if it's cutting out, could be electrical, take the seat and tank off and take a look at all the connections.

And crap in the bottom of the tank..........have the DRZ submit to a urine test :deal

i think i spotted the problem.
the Clymer manual arrived today and the pic of the mikuni carb clearly shows a tiny coil spring between the retainer plug and the needle. Mine has no such spring,:huh,,but it will soon!:deal

after I ride my bysickle to the store to get beer,,:1drink

4 motorcyles in the past 4 years, and only time I had to give up and take any of them have been to a shop was for a Carburetor problem on my KTM 450. Turns out that spring on the Air/Fuel mixture was missing, idle was way off to compensate, wrong jets and clogged internals. Best $125 I spent on that bike so far. Chasing carb problems suck!

Am guessing carbs cleaned and a new battery will fix the problem.

has a new battery, and the carb is fucking sterile, it's so clean.
You just try to go without your needle retainer spring and see how well you run!
Ima make you ride it when it's ready!:deal

The annual Tequila Festival in Tiujana. Oct 6 thru 13. Costs 6 bux, good for all days. Something like 30 different suppliers of tequila, they typically have 3 or 4 styles each. That is a lot of different tequilas to try, no wonder it lasts for days. And they have good food there too.

And, if you come back over the border on the shuttle bus, which is considered a 'common carrier', the Cali rule on 1liter/person is waived and you can bring back up to $400 worth of hooch on the bus! Prices are usually very reasonable on the MX side of the border, so that is like an easy 2 cases of booze.

    Something to think about.
