Occupaws, a non profit charitable organization that raises dogs to be fully trained and certified guide dogs for visually impaired Wisconsin residents at no cost (would otherwise cost someone upwards of $20,000) is having a motorcycle scavenger hunt on June 23rd starting at the Quaker Steak and Lube in Middleton, WI.

Here is the event flyer: http://occupaws.org/forms/HogsforDogsFlyer2012.pdf

I did this ride last year with my girlfriend and we had a blast. There were a whole bunch of different raffle prizes and with the number of tickets we got from the correct answers on our scavenger hunt check list we came away with three awesome prizes, and pretty much everyone came away with something. But one of the best parts, other than the excellent riding outside the Madison area, is getting to meet a bunch of adorable lab puppies.

My girlfriend has been training one of their dogs (Howie, who some of you have met) for the last eight months and I've found Occupaws to be a great organization that really cares about their dogs and the people that receive them. Hopefully she'll have him with, I'm hoping they'll let us take him in the side car.:evil

So I'm trying to spread the word for a worthy and fun event! Anyone and everyone is welcome. I hope to see you there. Lojack

You would probably gain more interest in this if you had posted a picture of a dog that was at least a little bit on the cute side.

These guys aren't just bread to be cute, afaik. They are donated by breeders and go through a battery of testing so they know they won't have any number of common health problems. They're Superdogs and just happen to be Super Cute!

Savoir-Faire, hope to see you threre. You too, n9udl. Lojack

OK, thats 2 weeks after the R4R and 3 days after the wifes birthday, so we should be open,, at least we will make an honest try to make it over for it.

yes I know labs are bred for more than just to be cute, we are on our 4th one over a 20 year span. one was a drop out from a helper program. the stories I could tell! so yes I would like to be part of this.

Cooper is our current one, another chocolate. he plays his parts well, usually cute, farts on cue, is a closet vegitarian--eats any vegiaable he can find, and the thing he does best is what all labs do well ( besides put up birds) lives every day running around looking like"today is the best day EVER"!

It would be nice to get a dropout since they should be pretty well trained to begin with. I think the ones that don't make it here go into other fields like for seizure and diabetes alert before going back to the breeders for going to a regular home. Not sure what the placement rate is, but I think there is a rather long wait list for "failed" dogs.

I got my first dog last summer from a shelter, an American Bulldog. He's a total sweetheart. My family raced sled dogs while I was growing up, it's surprising it took me fifteen years to get a dog of my own. My parents now have a British Lab. She's a hunting dog

    Good organization.
    Good event.
    Really sucky name.

What I call my bikes in the privacy of my garage, or within the acoustic confines of my helmet is one thing - and I've called 'em all kinds of things, both wonderful and terrible - but HOGS?

I know, but hey, it rhymes.

Last year it was predominantly American and Japanese cruisers. Think I had the only European bike, but there were a few kids on sport bikes.

So those that have done this event, can you explain more of the format?

I have done the Bonzai Rally. Is it similar to that? You get the bonus locations before departure with time to route? Or is this a different format? Help me understand the game.

    Thank you.

You get a route sheet with a bunch of local trivia. Maybe twenty or so questions pertaining to landmarks you'll see during the ride and at stops. Pretty easy, I think we missed one question last year. You get raffle tickets for every correct answer and at the end there is a table full of prizes. Each one has a bag you can place as many tickets as you want. It's a good system since you don't get a prize you wouldn't want.
