Not sure if one like this has been held before, but our club is putting on an event this Sunday, and adding a 'team' competition to it. Individual scores will still count within the classes, but we are teaming up us 'A' riders up with a Novice and Intermediate .

Each team will ride the loops together, with the A rider acting as coach/advisor. Rather than just having low combined score as the decider, the team who's B and C riders lower their relative loop scores the most over the event are the team winners. And no.... you can't intentionally take 5's on the first loop to make for a bigger delta. That would screw up your chance at your individual placing within your class.

I'm really looking forward to it. I'll report back after the event for anyone interested in trying the concept.

The trial is being held near Aylmer, Ontario as part of the Southwestern Ontario Vintage Trials club series (they run modern classes too). The first event in Brantford saw a nice rider turn out, considering it was snowing.

Copied and pasted to my club's Facebook page. Seems like an interesting concept.

That is an awesome idea... I'm putting on an event next weekend might try the same. As it is now the advanced guys tend to ride together, the Int ride all over the place and the beginners ride together so this would shake things up a bit.

Back from the trial, and though I wasn't able to stick around for the official results, I can report that a good time was had by all. The B and C riders that I was teamed up with both cleaned thier last loop (of 4) . In fact the B rider cleaned his last two loops. I think that there were about 40 riders in total.

Perfect weather and flowing sections that really emphasized the basics and concentration on being smooth. I had a couple of my own brain farts and took some stupid points on the first loop when I pulled an old rusty move of getting off-line and then on the gas too late for a slippery climb...... but I had a great time.

The one aspect that I think made it really work was that when people were watching the other teams ride a section, everyone asked questions about how to improve a line selection, or technique and usually improved on it.

The club will be running another one like this in the Fall.

Sounds like a great way to help less experienced riders learn as well as get people used to coaching. Cool idea.

Although i didn't ride as part of one of the teams,my daughter did and had a really great time. The Aylmer location is one of the best we have.It reminded me a bit of the old Waterdown location of many years ago.Looking forward to the fall event.
