Im going to be watching this build.
I know, I know..........a little update is desperately needed.
New job, two kids, two dogs, wife, extended family, etc..... They all seem to keep me out of the garage where my heart wants me to be.
I finally had a chance out go out and play yesterday, after probably four months of inactivity.
After mapping out the peg, seat, and bar relationship on about six different "adventure" bikes, I had a better idea where I wanted the pegs to be on the XR900R. I wanted them low and a bit forward so they'll be good on long trips yet comfortable for riding while standing up. Decided to use a set of CR250 peg mounting brackets as they're proven, available, and they'll allow me to move them if I have to.
Also, in order to give my legs a bit more room and simply for aesthetic reasons, I tilted the side plates in. This will give my calves room and also adds quite a bit of strength to the frame.
Like my rear shock?
Also, just bought a set of Big Blocks and can't wait to get them on.
Awesome! Glad it's still moving forward!
Its gettin good now
can i pay 5 bucks to sit on this bike when its done? This bike is sick can't wait to see it when its done.
And how about this bike after the road tests?!
Will you be able to keep the pipes inside of the frame/skid plate?
Where are you putting the radiator? Tail mounted?
The last post Byrdman made was in March. Is it done???
Really creative !
great looking project mate! I'm def subbed.
Holy shit, I've been dragging this project on for almost three years!
I'm back working on this beast and I'll have a proper update in the next few days. Teaser: new lathe, lots of stainless steel shavings, rusty tubing, two used spools of welding wire, and a new Corbin.
Would love to see this project completed. I love the idea of a Japanese naked bike bike turned scrambler.
I'm a perfectionist so each steps seems to take weeks.
I will get a few pictures up soon but since the last update I have:
Fully rebuilt the rear 30% of the frame to support a set of Hepco Becker panniers.
Extended the entire rear of the bike (frame, tail fairing, undertray, wiring, etc) by 5" to support the huge bags.
Built a custom set of bag mounts that slide into custom made frame receptacles.
Completed the lower engine cradle/swingarm mount.
Stay tuned everyone. I'm embarassed that this project's scope has grown and my progress has clowed to a crawl. By the time I'm done, I might as well retire from motorcycling!
No worries man, the longer it takes you to finish it.. the longer it gives me to talk myself out of doing the same thing to my bike...haha
you're gonna put your eye out with that.
I feel like it's reasonable to bump this and ask for an update once a month... so bump.
I believe the project will be a candidate for CL, the excuse; "lost interest, no-time to finish".
