Had a look at my valves after reading people having their valves out of spec after only 1000km. To cut a long story short: 4 valves (3 intake and 1 exhaust) were out of spec. Thank you Honda for this great assembly.

It does take a modest amount of skill to properly check valve clearances.

Why would anyone check the valves at 600 miles? Trouble with an even idle or other warning signs or is valve clearances part of the initial break-in service on the 500s?

It is no rocket science but takes a long time to reach the valves. And yes it is in the maintenance schedule, and I know why :huh.

Lots of people listen to their valves if they need adjusting , I did not feel right to wait till 24.000km. I am glad I checked.

During commuting my fuel consumption is 23km/l (and this is fast commuting :evil)

Actually converts to 57.13 miles per gallon, and the guy did say that was hard riding:evil, which isnt bad for fast riding (if by fast, he means above 75-80mph).

I´m getting around 22-26kms per liter from my DL650-12, and I do mostly commuting. Unless you´re really gassing it, the 500 should get closer to 30kms per liter (or even better, because the NC700X already does that).

same here. like i said, unimpressed.. i run my 2012 DL650 95% highway at 75mph for 40 minutes.. even with the OE hard cases hanging off the back..

if i waited for the CB500x i would expect at least mpg in the 60's. maybe it's just his riding style?

I am impressed though. It is 10% more economical than my previous XT660Z Tenere. I drive a lot at 130km/h (80mph).

I put a deposit on the first CB500X at my local powersports dealer a month ago... got an email today saying they are expecting it by the end of June. I hope they are right.

What I have read is that Canada was going to get them first in June, a member on another former who is in Canada had a delivery date in June was just told it will be another 3 weeks. Honda's public relations suck. They wont come out and say when they will arrive here. They cant even get a picture of the CB500x with ABS brakes on their website, even though the bike has been already sold overseas. On their website they are offering 2.99% financing on 2012 and 2013 CB500x's:confused WTF

I hope they are right... I put my deposit down on a new CB500x (ABS) last month. I was told "mid July" delivery date by my local dealer out here in MA.

I'm guessing that American Honda is delaying the release of the CB500X in an effort to sell the NC700X's already in dealer showrooms.

They seem to have arrived in shops across Australia last week or the week before.

Looked at one here in Hobart / Tasmania / Oz on Friday.

    Liked what I saw :-)
