    Just to clarify things:

    I bought and rebuilt a CBR500R with bent forks. I was told the fork tubes are the same length, so I bought the X tubes (mostly because they were cheaper). I can confirm that the R stanchions are about 3/4" longer than the X tubes (hard to measure a bent one vs straight). This made sense after I got the X ones, because the R uses clip-on handlebars so it needs to protrude above the top triple clamp.

    Thanks Ben2go. road a bit last evening with 34.5f and 39r and the bike seemed skittish at those pressures with very quick turn in. Was not particularly happy. But there new to me on this bike. Had them on a KLR and they were fine. hopefully I'll adapt and get use to them. I'm going to drop to 32f and 36r today to see what that's like.

    Jim, thanks for the info - it is really useful. I've only worked on X-es so far so had no chance for direct comparison - and took this info from the RR thread on cb500x.com forum. I know for sure they have worked on many Fs so far, my assumption then that the F and X has same length, while the R is a bit longer as you said.
    For the record which year of an R and X had you compared? I've seen the part numbers changing after 2016 model year with no apparent reason - could this be also the cause?

    You're welcome. I noticed the same quick turn in. At the OE pressures the bike seemed to wonder a lot and rode very harsh. The 705s are stiffferthan the OE Scorpions and seem to track better at the lower pressures. Some guys on the cb-x forum run them as low as 28psi but I think they are smaller lighter riders than myself.

    The 500X is always going to turn in and changed direction faster than a KLR will, it is something that you will get used to and enjoy very quickly and not worry about. Just need a few good rides in to get used to the bike.

    Pull your Rally Raid spokes and throw the 17 back on the front for a few weeks and the turn-in says howdy all over again. :lol3

    34f/36r here, I also notice the same turn in. At first I also disliked it. My rear tire (new 150/70-17 vs old 160/60-17) is slightly bigger diameter than the one it replaced so I reduced the rear preload by two clicks and raised the front about two turns of fork preload, now I prefer the effortlessness of its turns.

    Great news....

    My buddy came over with 2 small pry bars (flat blade with a notch cut out in the middle), that he got in a screwdriver kit. He used them like he did the flat screw drivers the other day, but was able to seat them better and was able to rock the pack gently from side to side and viola the pack let go and came off the shaft!

    Some of the metal plates had the black paint worn off in spots, so I wore some more off with the sand paper.

    We are all good to go now.

    I also installed the EBK upgraded clutch springs, didn't notice any difference in clutch pull.

    Ready to rock now!

    Thanks ben2go, cruz, & jkeesaman. All is well, took a 200 mile ride yesterday tires at 33f & 37 rear. Some interstate but mostly serpentine rural roads and the bike and tires performed flawlessly. The bike is a left over 2014 bought new in August of 15. One of the first thing I did was reduce the preload on the rear to the lowest setting and reduce the tire pressures to 33f & 36r, I'm a lightweight old man of 160# wet. Rode it like that for a little over a year. Never was fond of the front suspension. So last October went for RR level one suspension mostly because you could order directly from them rather than the us distributer and the price was more reasonable. Really big improvement in handling. I mostly ride rural 2 lanes some forest service roads and gravel roads into a piece of lake property. I actually began following this thread since the beginning as I was looking for a replacement for the 09 klr I was riding. Took a few years to convince me it could replace the klr. After a test ride I fell in love with the smooth ness of the engine so I sold the klr and bought the X without regrets. Got the shinko's partly because they are cost effective, got them from bike bandit for 167 & change and they were on my door step in 3 days. Been riding since 1973 and Ionger care for heavier bikes nor do I need massive horse power, I guess I don't have the testosterone I use to have but I still love motorcycles and riding.

    I am happy to help a fellow rider out.

    I'm only 40 years old. I have lost my desire for heavy, loud, and fast as well. I've owned and ridden almost all styles of motorcycles since I was a small boy. The X is my go to bike. I own eight in total. I prefer to relax and enjoy the ride and the scenery as much as possible. Some health issues I've been dealing with has helped me slow down and enjoy more of what's around me.

    well i may not be 40 but i too have lost interest is loud, heavy, and fast bikes as well lol. had my fun on them when i was younger.

    i just dont see the point it them anymore, i much rather have a more capable, light, quiet bike to better enjoy to ride itself.

    Excuse my ignorance on this one, but there's thousands of posts here ~ too many to sift through.

    That said, a friend might be selling a '14 CB500f and I'd really like something with a fairing (prefer the X model). So is it possible to install a X model fairing on a F model? If not, does anyone make a decent fairing for the F model?, I would like to get something in line with the X models looks and level of protection.

    Bummer, but thank you for the reply. Do you know if anyone makes a wind screen specific to the '14 500f ? I've never had any luck with universal parts...

    Mitch is right. In a bit more detail, the whole X fairing is supported by a bracket on the frame, while the F headlights and whatnot are fixed to the front forks and the frame hoes not have the provisions to mount an X fairing.
    I've only seen small bikini windshields which mount to the handlebars which can be used on the F - dunno about their real capabilities though.
