So I have been rooting around here for a while learning about scooters. I think I may have a few posts in different threads, not a regular by any means. Multiple surgeries on my left hand has made me reconsider the contents of my stable. I thinned the herd down to nothing and then recently picked up a Yamaha FJR1300AE. Now I want to add a scooter, probably a maxi. I've been looking and found this Honda today, excellent condition, 2007, owner is asking $4,300, scoot has 4,170 miles. What say ye scooter collective?

There is an 03 Silverwing with 6000 miles on this site of bikes for sale for $3100. I'd think thats a better deal.

There is no reason not to get a Silverwing if you want a maxi scoot. I rode one around a parking lot a couple of times and it was my favorite of all the Japanese maxi scoots. I was planning on buying new, and the price was a bit too high. What made me favor it over the others is the cutouts it has in the floorboards (look straight down from the front of the seat) that allow you to put your feet straight down beside the bike at a stop, and not having to dangle them over the edges of the floorboards, which makes the ground harder to reach. I wanted it as a replacement for my 1500 Goldwing. I have a partial disability, and the Goldwing was getting harder and harder to handle in traffic, and especially in parking lots. I was afraid I was going to drop it. The Silverwing, despite it's size, felt very light compared to the others, because you could put your feet straight down beside it, just like a motorcycle.

I thoroughly researched the Silverwing, and could not find any reason not to buy one. Looks like Honda got this one right.

My 07 Silver Wing has 36,000 miles. I bought it in 2008. This has been an outstanding Maxi Scooter. I have kept up with maintenance replacing Oil, Oil filters, drive belt, fluids and tires. I reshod at 11,000 miles using the Bridgestone hoops. I have ridden in 15 states and Canada. The only problem was when a Bering failed at 30,000 in the rear final drive assembly. It was replaced for $290. At a shop. I always carry an oil filter in case I'm remote and need an oil change. That allows me to find a shop on the road and get an oil change quickly. One has been reported to have gone 295,000 miles in the Carolinas. With good maintenance it will give outstanding service.
I have met several sliver Wing owners at rally's they are outstanding people with high regard for their Silver Wings. Several have traveled long distances on Silver Wings a Russian who drove to Russian far north in the winter with a sidecar attached. An Australian who road to Mongolia. A texan who rides incredible miles. And one man I know of who rode to Alaska and Back. It is likely that the man will ware out before the Silver Wing does in long distance traveling. My longest single day ride was 525 miles. Freeway capable and a real cruiser if you need to cover ground quickly.
    My recommendation is a buy.

Buy it. Only gets about 55mpg, can't say anything else negative about the swing. Great all round bike.

Yes, only about 15 miles away so there is no transportation cost.

I have never ridden a Silverwing. I have owned two Burgman 650's and love them. Maxi scoots are a lot of fun. I have heard nothing but good about the Silverwing.

I have a 2002 with 70k, still love it. Excellent on the highway, and fun around town, and It makes a good touring bike.

This is from the Honda website.....

    Function, meet Luxury.
The Silver Wing is not only good looking, it’s also extremely practical. It’s designed with a huge 5.5-liter underseat storage space—enough to easily hold a full-face helmet. Secure, weather-resistant and lockable, it offers plenty of room for weekend shopping trips or adventures.

So is that "huge 5.5 liter" a typo?

I have always liked these scoots and came really close to buying one a few years back. Have heard many, many good things about these bikes. If you like it, buy it. I plan to as well, hopefully sooner than later.

2002 with 29K...great bike, love it...can't really go wrong with it, IMHO. I'd buy another without hesitation.

Is this the ABS model? Definitely a plus to spring for ABS on a Silver Wing since it is available. Price may be a tad high depending on your area. I would offer 3500 and see where it goes.

I have a 2012 bought new last May and it now has 6800 miles! I love it! This is great for around town or one-up touring. If you want to tour two-up look elsewhere unless you are both very light! :rofl

Mine has been on two tours with me already and I can't wait to go again!!!

Honda did get this one right! Good luck.

With that top case included? BUY IT. I owned a 2003 model for two years and put over 21,000 miles on it before I traded it in on a BMW G650GS. Bad move. The main reason I wanted another bike was because of the very bumpy roads here in Vermont. If you live in a place that does not have the extremes in temperatures that we have in VT and the roads are in good shape then get it. I found the small diameter wheels, the weight of the bike and the stock rear suspension were not a good match for the riding around here. That said, I wish I still had it. I did my first and only Saddle Sore 1000 on the SWing. I was absolutely shocked at how quick the bike is off the line. Sop light drag races were a lot of fun. Honda's engineers fixed it so you could not wheely the bike. It doesn't really get going until you hit 5 MPH and then watch out. No shifting means you win almost everytime so long as the next light is less than a quarter mile away. Any further and you will eat their dust. In the straightaways the bike doesn't have the power but I always caught up to the groups I rode with in the twisties. Good luck.
