    Wow!!

Bob just elevated this to 5 star status by himself.

I know a couple of nice places in Antigua that I need to dig out info on. I wish I was as well travelled as LR ... hopefully, someday I will be.

This thread is going to take on epic proportions.

Nata Harli: I apologize for the deviation into the discussion on the bar. Although next door to Hotel Mary, that is really not part of the info to include in this thread. I will refrain from further deviations. :evil

    LR,

Good suggestion but I'm trying to keep this as simple as I can right now.

But, I'll throw it open and let others comment. If there is a desire for others to have this info, I'll incorportate it in the future.

Don't take this as my not wanting suggestions. I'm still open to suggestions.

South end of Malecon, on the beach. Open air moto parking in interior lot. $100.00 U.S. and up. Stay 3 get one free deal. Very clean, very well kept. You could take your wife here.
Good food and Booze on premises, WiFi and a 'puter station on site.
Walking distance to historic city center and most food and drink in town.
English varies by employee but most can get you what you need. Staff overall, fantastic!

If there on a weekend get a room furthest from the street. Kids cruise the Malecon on fri- sat. night.

The Motorcycle Travel Network www.Motorcycle-Travel.net has about 400 members currently in the United States and Canada. Members join ($30 for two years) and agree to host other members for a small gratuity ($15/single $20/couple) which gets you a bed with clean sheets, towel for shower and breakfast in the morning. You also get local knowledge on area attractions and the best roads to ride. It is something like the "Tent Space" but organized by a retired teacher that thought it would be nice to have a formal group that wanted to open their homes to other traveling motorcyclists, and in turn save money and meet new friends when they travel.

All you have to do once you join is go to the website and under members, look up the states that you are traveling in and both a map and a list will display all the members in that state. You can then click on either the pin or detail to get accomidation and contact information. Non members can not access any of the details that include members names, phone numbers and email address. You have to contact the member and make arrangements by phone or email.

I joined last year at the Honda Hoot and have so far only used it twice. I have had the pleasure of hosting two couples over that say period. Know I have new friends that I stay in contact with and hope to visit again. All of this while saving money, which is great for us retired guys.

Has anyone seen Sjoerd Bakker's little hotel listings booklet?
Sjoerd has traveled for probably 10 years in Mexico and Central America. The Canadian spends his winters down there. He has compiled a very useful booklet listing cheap hotels throughout Mexico and some of Central America.
The high roller crowd can move on now....

It's quite comprehensive, tough to find a town he's not covered....and he's been to and stayed in about 80% (or more?) of the listings personally. So to me, that says a lot.

Sjoerd isn't doing this to get rich...in fact, I'm not sure how you can get a hold of a copy at all. Hard to find a guide like this where there isn't an alterior motive. ($$$$)

He is a member over on HU. Look him up (user name is the same as above)
and PM him. No idea of price or if there is un updated version. I have two, an
'06 and '07 version, so I expect new ones will continue. Great resource to have in your info quiver when the sun is going down and you show up in some
Craphole like Caborca and are beat and its dark.

I visited three of his listings....they are usually some of the least expensive
places in the town. Not the nicest perhaps...but not rat holes either. Tip: in some cases tourists won't be staying there....either due to location or condition... or like of "ammenities. Not much Neon or happening bar or near the tourist area.

But safe and cheap. We only stayed in one of the three of listings of Sjoerd's we visited during out six week trip. One was full (good deal!) the other was too far from where we wanted to be...the 3rd was just right and about $15 cheaper than the Gringo hotel. Bikes were safe with night watchman.

The guide also has a nice intro and covers some of the usual stuff guide books do, but this from a riders perspective....and one with a lot of experience.

    Cheers

I started this thread quite a while ago and there was some initial interest but it seems to have died down.

Tis the season for going to Mexico again and you are welcome to update this if you want.

If I don't see any renewed interest, I'm just going to not pay too much attention to it any more.

I'm heading to Panama in about 4 weeks to pick up a bike and ride it back to Dallas so I, at least, could use some suggestions, especially for Mexico since I'll be riding through Central America with someone familiar with that area. When we reach the Mexican border, I'm on my own :wave.

I had already started a thread very much like this one but I'm willing to let John use the info I already gathered.

I PM'd Baldy asking him to move my thread here before I realized John already had one going here.

So, John, if you want to incorporate my info into this thread the link is:
    http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=207964

I'm heading to Panama in a few weeks to pick up a bike and ride it back to Dallas so I probably wouldn't have time to keep my thread updated for a while.

So much for the "Places to Stay Forum". :rofl

    What a fcking pisser.....

Is it that the current management doesn't see a need for additional Mods, or that they just don't want anymore Mods? :ear
