You are in a unique position to help many folks understand some differences between a bike in need of a tuneup vs a bike that doesn't need one AND what changes the IICE-Aire can make to both states of tune. Perhaps we could prevail upon you to be the guinea pig, you know for the good of science…

So like run the bike for a bit and then move the jumper back to stock then run the bike some more. Take notes.

The adjust the valves and check and adjust the rocker end play and check the TPS voltage, and change the oil, then run the bike. Take more notes. Then change the jumper back to -20 or -30 and let us know what you notice…

Just think of the fame and notoriety, not to mention admiration from an untold numbers of ADV'rs. :freaky

Holy crap man, don't you know I too have a job which takes 10-12 hours out of my day, a 4 season porch to finish up with electrical, insul, drywall, trim, flooring and paint. a living room that MUST get painted per the one at home who wears the pants, racing rc cars with my sons, etc..... :arg

actually, I would like to do this for everyone. cause, my bike does need an oil change, it is time to do the valve adjust again, don't know if i will fuss with rocker end play (need to read the adjust for dummies thing again), never have checked my TPS voltage, and how do I know if i need new stick coils? (plus, where are these infamous stick coils?)

You do bring up a good point though, as I was driving, I said to myself, "should I also go through the bike to make sure nothing is up with it before really trying to evaluate this magical little black box with 4 pin positions?"

question and hopefully your answer will not bias my findings, but.... do you suspect that some of those items might be out of adjustment on my bike? as in, if I am not finding as significant of a difference in the bike as others have noticed, that it could be because it is a bit out of wonker right now?

    thanks JJ

Well that is what this little experiment will help reveal… How much improvement does a tune up add to the effectiveness of the IICE-Aire? :deal

Besides fame awaits and with fame, you always get the girl, just like in the movies… :norton

Ice air arrived today. Install 10 minutes. I am impressed with the quality of the connectors, overall quality of the piece, nice work poolside.

Went for a long ride on the 20 degree setting. The most noticeable difference is in the higher rpm range, the motor is smoother at 4500 - 5000 and higher. Noticeable power increase but what is really nice is it doesn't feel like you're wringing it's neck in the higher rpms. Even cruising at 75 -85 mph the motor is just smoother. Not 1200 boxer smooth, but big improvement for the 800.

Waiting patiently for the next gizmo. Definitely worth the wait folks.

    Thanks Poolside! :clap

So what's the deal with these new vials? The deal is NO DEAL! They are going back. I found the manufacturer of our original vials and ordered a bag of 500! (Smallest quantity available.) They'll be here Monday and I can get back to the program!

[EDIT] Important note: No IICE Airs were assembled or shipped with these vials!

These vials are different. The seal on the distributor-substitute vial is different. The original vial is on the left. The new one is on the right. It looks innocent enough.

The original vial has an inner sealing lip like found on Tupperware containers.

The new one doesn't have an inner sealing lip. But still, it looks like it will seal ok. The lid snaps solidly into place and I don't see any problem.

While doing the prep work I notice something odd about the plastic. What's this? Bubbles in the plastic around the sealing area?!

I grabbed another one to check. Are they all like this? I wonder if this is going to be a sealing problem?

Time to do a vacuum leak down test. Here's a shout out for the Harbor Freight Brake Bleeder and Vacuum Pump http://www.harborfreight.com/brake-bleeder-and-vacuum-pump-kit-92474.html

This thing is great. Pulls down to 16.67kPa/2.42psi. Holds a vacuum until you press the release valve on the bottom.

Cut the bottom off a vial.

Submerge the head in water and draw a vacuum from the open end.

And this is what happens, the tube fills with water. Jeebus. At this point I'm standing there shaking my head. I'm at a loss to imagine what other issues this simple little project might have. :lol3

A photo sampler of these 'new and improved' vials. :lol3 Pics show bubbles or voids in the sealing area.

Like I was saying, these are going back to the distributor. But I spoke too soon about no other problems could happen. :rofl

I tried working out a return for these vials with the distributor, but instead they wanted to do a 'partial' store credit. 'Partial' meaning a parts-only credit, no shipping credit. Oh sure. I'm trying to explain to the girl that their parts had changed, but the website pictures and product description has not changed. Besides, their shipping department is a profit center and the shipping for the lightweight box was $16 American.

But this girl, she's a little bit of a handful to deal with, and I don't have the patience for it just then. I'll take a crack at her a little later.

A girlfriend of mine hears about this and says to me, "Let me take care of it. You have to fight fire with fire!" she says. You know, usually I have at least some argument with the woman, but with this I was forced to agree. So we'll see how that goes. I sort of wish them luck. If I have one piece of advice for them it'd be this, surrender early.

Poolside the update is greatly appreciated! I also appreciate you doing your best to ensure the part I get is of the higher or higher standard than expected. Quality is a lost art these days.

I admit though I was really looking forward to getting mine sooner rather than later. :cry

For Quality I can wait! :D

Poolside is thorough. We all knew that even if we didn't know we knew that.:lol3

But, how has he had time to find a woman to talk to let alone a girlfriend?:rofl

BTW, as far as I know if you're ever going into a fight about a purchase, go find a woman to fight for you. I know it isn't fair, but they just know how to make it happen.:clap
