As fate would have it, I'm scheduled to meet a friend in Melbourne, FL to discuss a project we've been working on. As i'm thinking of how i've never even been to Florida.. a couple things came to mind. First off, I've been wanting to take a road trip for months, this is the perfect time to clear my head and enjoy the open road. Second, that's the beginning of Spring Break.. Well that's good, I definitely won't have a problem meeting some new friends. Third, Daytona bike week starts March 8th. Hot damn, I've always wanted to go, what a coincidence!

So I will only be in Melbourne March 3rd, and I've got a few days to burn before heading to Daytona. Hmm what to do.. I plan to cruise all over Florida and find the best roads for riding. I use a gym with locations all over the US, so I'll be able to store my pack in the lockers and take a nice shower every day. I am heading towards Lake Apopka and just get lost for a few days. I am bringing a small tent with me, so i'll have somewhere to sleep.

I'm taking my favorite bike at the moment, a 2006 Buell XB9 CityX. It's been 9900 miles in 7 years, I aim to put 3k on the odometer in 2 weeks.

I-10 is a special hell. You can make some really fast time on it, but sections of it are crowded and, I think, dangerous. You just really have to be aware. Have a safe trip !

So I am stopping off at Nola the first night to catch some rest, then day 2 I will be stopping at Panama City to check out the coast. I'll leave early on day 3 and make my way to Melbourne.

Nerves are building, i'm super excited :D

If you have an extra half day, when you leave Panama City, you should head north to Ft Rucker and go to the Army Aviation Museum. It is about 70-80 miles north of PC Beach.
