Oh no not not another which GPS question? My question is about brightness in the mid day sun. I trying to decide between a Zumo or TT Rider. My current GPS just washes out in bright daylight.

Before I spend any more money on a new GPS. I would like to know from other users. Can you read the screen while riding along on in bright sun light?

    My eyesight is not good.
I have my Zumo mounted on the bars just below the clutch perch. It is close to me and tilted up.
In bright sun I can not read it unless I bend forward to shade it. I am 6’3”, so, it is not much of a problem for me.
On my GS I could mount the unit on the windscreen support and shade it. But I think the unit would be so far from me I could not read it. Guys do mount their GPS’s there and it looks like a very good place to do it.

My advice is to try before you buy.

A couple of sweeping generalisations :

The LCD screens look sensational in the shop but wash out badly in sunlight.

The TFT screens are superior in this regard. They still wash out a little, but not like the LCD's do.

Yup. TFT is just a better class of LCD. Better contrast ratios and stuff. But for the average punter it's likely to be confusing, so like most vendors I just use the terms to differentiate. Cheers.

If your wearing sunglasses or have a tinted visor it will always be an issue. That said some are definitely better than others!

    Hi,

if you want to have a GPS with a realy bright display, that is readable in sunlight get the Garmin 60CSX. Have it mounted on my Tenere and it reads good in bright sunlight, because it has a transrefelctive Display (the more light it gets , the brighter it is). 60CSX can Autoroute as well. For me the perfect GPS on an enduro.
