How much oil in an oil filter housing is normal?

So if I don't (but actually don't know yet) have worn rings or valve guides, and the engine oil isn't topped off too high, what's the amount of oil lying in the bottom of an R80 air filter housing that might signify a problem?
What's the "about" normal amount for these R80 and R100 engines? My ST has a messy 1/16th to an 8th thick smear of it, pooled at one end.
It doesn't drip out of the plastic air intakes. (yet?) or appear to even make it's way into those intakes, but did make it's way out that one way rubber grommet valve and then onto the tranny a bit.
    Thanks!

My ST will get a trace of oil like that sometimes.

However, comma, once I did have about the amount that you described collected in the filter box. Turned out one of the preformed rubber tubes coming off the T from the breather tube to send crankcase gases to each carb had a big split in the bottom side. That allowed oil mist in the blowby gases to condense out and collect in the airbox.

New tube from the dealer and problem solved. Might not be your case, but check the T fitting and both tubes leading into the carb runners.
