how stupid was i...

    to have not checked the float needle on the carb when i cleaned it out.

    REPLACED would be more like it as well as the needle holder..... That thing is 37 yrs old:eek1.Make sure you are shutting off your petcock each ride after you ride, until you get it changed....or find an engine full of gasoline!

    whats the needle holder? and why shut off the petcock?

    damn. i meant the float jet. not needle. the needle is fine.

    If you don't shut off the petcock each night, and you have a leaky float needle/seat, then the fuel tank liquid will try to seek the lowest level it can. That would be your crankcase .....full of gas:eek1. Not good. The closed petcock keeps fuel from leaving the tank. On bikes of this vintage You want to shut off the petcock every night anyway. A good friend of mine lost 5 vintage Bultacos, his garage and all his tools and nearly his house from a gas puddle explosion triggered by his garage furnace and gas fumes from this mistake:eek1.
