This year the Arizona Trail Riders "Howlin at the Moon" rally will be held in Payson, Arizona at the Payson Elks Lodge located at 1206 N. Beeline Highway, Southwest corner of Hwy 87 and Airport Road.

We have changed things up this year for our Dual Sport participants with new A and B routes on Saturday that start out going South through the high deserts of the scenic Tonto Basin before climbing back up into the pine forests of the Matazal Mountains on the way to Young.

We have also changed things up for our Adventure participants by offering two riding options.
    (1) Ride the Dual Sport C routes which take you from Payson to Young for lunch and back to Payson for the banquet Saturday night.
    (2) A point-to-point (GPS Only) ride leaving from Payson Saturday morning, going to Winslow for lunch, then onto Young for banquet and overnight , returning to Payson on Sunday.

Thank You to the Arizona Adventure Riders Group for helping us with the Adventure routes this year.

Also new this year is the American Motorcyclist Association membership requirement. The AMA is now requiring membership for all National Dual Sport and Adventure events and you must bring proof of current AMA membership when you check-in at the event. If you are not an AMA member there is a 1 Event pass available for $20.00. The AMA is a great organization which the Arizona Trail Riders support and we hope this requirement does not dissuade your participation.

For more information or to register for the Dual Sport ride click here; https://www.eventbrite.com/e/2017-h...ational-dual-sport-series-tickets-31302257896

For more information or to register for the point-to-point overnight Adventure ride to Young please click here; https://www.eventbrite.com/e/2017-h...l-adventure-riding-series-tickets-34336789261

All the proceeds from this event are donated to the Arizona Off Highway Vehicle Coalition to fight for keeping your OHV trails open.

Preview pic's and video will be coming soon.

Finally got around to editing some video from another Howlin' at the Moon odo ride a couple of weeks ago. We have completely changed all the DS routes (Sat and Sun) this year to keep things fresh. Some trails are completely new, some are trails we haven't used since 09, and some are trails we are running backwards for a whole new perspective ;)

Also don't forget that the ADV ride is completely new with the overnight ride to Young option.

Even if you have ridden this event before, this year you will see something new. I guarantee it :)

I like your style of editing.

Short clips with a show of everything without a long boring road !!!!!

    Looks very interesting.

Had a group ride up to Young yesterday to the Antler for lunch. Antler is the restaurant where the Howlin overnight adventure ride will eat dinner and breakfast the next morning, and where camping is (behind it). Scott, the chef there is super nice and accommodating, and the food is top notch. I've never had a meal there I didn't think was great. Saturday and Sundays routes for the point-to-point adventure ride are almost 350 miles combined bike bike friendly roads covering a variety of what AZ has to offer. High desert to thick forests and wide open plains, and a few of AZ's most iconic landmarks with a surprise stop at a little known piece of AZ history that dates back to 1878 and extended to the days of Route 66.

    Few pics of the route:

Thanks to everyone who has already registered for the ride. If you have not registered yet, but are thinking about it, just a friendly reminder that starting October 1st the entry fee goes up. Save yourself some beer money, and our sanity, by registering today! :)

The ride is coming up fast and if you are still "thinking" about registering for the ride this year please get'r done by Oct 10th so we can turn in a reasonably accurate head count for food. Also, we will not be allowing walk-up registration this year so if you are interested, you must pre-register.

Hope to see you in Payson.

Was just looking at the GPX routes......Any clues as to the amount of deep sand, huge rocks, and overall technicality for the B route? I was going to do the C on the Vstrom but it seems to be a lot of leisurely sight seeing type roads. Correct me please if I am totally wrong.

There is a short section of sand wash (1/2 mile) in the first 20 miles but that's it. No huge rocks but a there are short sections of 4x4 road that have the usual sprinkling of doll heads and such. It's a solid B route and could be a handful in places on a Vstrom.

Hey All. For headcount and budgeting reasons the online registration for the 2017 Howlin' at the Moon will be closing on Friday October 13th at Noon and walk-ups will not be available. Please tell anyone that has been thinking about attending to get signed up before Friday the 13th as we'd love to have you but we gotta get final headcount numbers submitted this week.

Thanks and ATR looks forward to seeing you in Payson.
