    OK! so how are you other guys doing/feeling about these?



    I was recently commuting to work, and felt the forks were kinda on the soft side for the backroad tar I was riding, so I cranked them up a few turns. THey seems to straighten up and fly right. Less random spurious movements.

    Then I'm just out riding in the woods and getting BOUNCed and deflecting off of everything. I think "Hmm seems liknda stiff" so I crank the compression way down into the soft end, adn all of a sudden I'm riding through the woods and its quite smooth :D

    I'm pretty impressed with these inserts, and how much real responsiveness you can tweak out of them. I am not really a guy who notices a ton of subtlety, hah

    Still waiting to be installed. They are in the queue. I am waiting for pivot and swing arm bearings and my "new" drive shaft so I can put the 1150 back on the road. I've been commuting on the R80. 70km a day on Kenda K760 cannot be recommended. Then I still have to do the push rod tube seals on the G\S, so that can be sold. After that they might go in.:cry

    Those 760's wear quick so you won't have to wait long. Dunlop 606's are good for rougher stuff, and maybe the Michelin T63, just not sure what sort of mileage you'll get, but my bet is more than the 760's. Heidenuas if you can get the rear are a good 50/50 tire, not a bad price and good miles onthe front and so so on the rear.

    Mine with the 48's and +10mm spacer from the supplied one seem a little stiff. Still haven't tested well enough though. It's very hard to get a true feel one what to expect when switching from a DRZ to a G/S.

    The K760 (front and rear) have only cost me $165 NZD fitted. I used to use T63, but I've never liked the front. It also depends what they have in stock when I turn up :-). Anyway, the K760 were already shagged, so I am just flogging the remaining few dollars out of it, but the noise is horrendous.

    I'd love to fit a set of TKC80, I've always liked that tyre, just not the price. I'll also be looking at Mitas. The Heidenau are a cheap German brand, with an NZ premium price.

    mine are still in the box too,just solved a no spark issue,(along with new ly powder coated battery box,newly recovered seat,and a new battery

    MD had a look,he reckons that 70 to 80 percent no spark is icu,so he swapped one out,but still no go,put the old one back and voila.So for th emoment i am running around with a new one to see if that solves the intermittent failure...the new battery and (maybe) ICU is great,starts up straight away,runs well.
    I have to look at the steering head bearings i think i can detect a slight movement under hard braking

    :dealI just stumbled upon the answer to this today when looking at the WP extreme parts fiche. It noted 3 choices of springs, 4,2 (they use commas for decimals in other parts), 4,0 and 3,8 and a measurement in Newtons per millimeter. Newtons are a direct measurement of force that any self respecting German or Austrian engineer would use when measuring the FORCE applied to a fork spring. Most spring rates from metric speaking areas use kg/mm for springs, here in the US, we use lbs/in. These are both practical yet wrong because kg is a measurement of MASS and lbs is of course WEIGHT. But, they are practical because gravity is the same everywhere on earth. However, if you happen to be buying springs for your moon bike :wink: make sure you're doing your calculations in Newtons or you'll be flying off into space on every jump :rofl!

    And I also did a quick conversion and found that it is quite easy to go between N/mm and kg/mm since 1N is about .098kg (here on earth) round that up to .1kg and you get a simple decimal move to convert (generally). So your HH measurements of 4.8 and 5.8 are in N/mm and are easily converted to .48 and .58kg/mm (actual numbers are more like .47 and .57kg/mm).

    Hello Gentlemen,
    Akabeton and I are finally getting around to installing our sets.
    One question remains- does the original top out spring and circlip at the bottom of the stantion get discarded from both sides? Is that what's meant by Racetech's instruction sheet? Or do we just toss the valve assembly bits but retain the spring and clip?
    Was it Stagehand or Ozbeemer that left the spring in???
    Also, what's been the conclusion on the 5 weight oil?
    I'm guessing that because this thread has more or less gone silent, everyone is more or less satisfied?

    Mine are still waiting to go in. This should happen in about four weeks time. I am looking forward to fitting them, but soon after I will use them for a ride, so I need to be sure I've installed them correctly. I am also interested in other peoples' experiences.

    I had to spent all my time on the G/S and I have a day job, which I can't afford to give up. The G/S is moving out next Tuesday and I'll soon have time to install them. The DB1K will be the proof in the pudding, or maybe it's in the eating. Anyway, they are going in. The bling, I mean the inserts, will intimidate all the other riders (on R80GS bikes) and they will let me pass. maybe.:lol3

    Havent been riding my PD a lot lately... as soon as I got the oil pan fixed it got really cold! ha! Nevertheless I like them a lot. I need to do more adjusting, and getting a real feel for the differences.
