I bet that's a magnificent area to ride/tour in. Never been down that way on a bike.

Depends on the weather as far as the turnout goes. Max's usually does demo rides and Teach usually puts on a pretty entertaining stunt show. You already know about the beautiful riding in the area.

If you like to get dirty, there are places for that. If you like to get dirty a lot, get a small bike and do the Barber ride. If you like to get dirty just a little, go for one of the guided rides from Max's tent. If you do not want to get dirty at all, there are some beautiful roads down there, and you can spend the whole day looking at twisty roads and colorful leaves.

We're due for a dry weekend after all the rainy ones over the last several years - let's see if Mother Nature cooperates.

i assume camping at the mountain is still not happening? frankly that is a huge issue, i wanna be local and i can't justify the kaatskill pricing. this isn't high ski season. and a quick check of area lodging isn't exactly cheapish either.

anyone got campgrounds that aren't outrageous?

worst case i'll sleep in the van down by the river.

the first few years were awesome. rain or not, camping on the mountain was really nice. shame it seems that isn't an option anymore.

Did anyone attend last year and do any of the "dirt rides" mentioned here: http://www.huntermtn.com/summer/festivals/colors-in-the-catskills/

From what I can tell on the other links, the GS challenge seems to be the only dirt rides. I am not sure if I want to tackle some of that GS challenge, but I would definitely sign up for any guided and unguided dirt trips. Do they have them, or is it just limited to the GS contest?

I attended Dirt Daze in Lake George at Americade, and they had some good guided and unguided routes. Same here???

There is a ride called the Barber ride - not really big bike friendly unless you can ride a GS better than most. It is put on by a local barber shop owner and those that attend are always impressed with the route he takes them on.

I was one of the ride leaders at DirtDaze - (Lake George Loop) and sadly there is nothing like that planned. Perhaps I can s/w Max to see if he'd be interested in a few of us posting rides on local dirt roads.

Agreed, the camping on site was great! Unfortunately I don't think Hunter Mtn made enough $$$ to continue it.

I just signed up for the GS Challenge and am searching for nearby campgrounds and am having trouble finding open sites. Anyone have any suggestions?? I'm open to (almost) any ideas.
