We get to experience Sandy twice. We were in the Dominican Republic (which shares an island with Haiti) when it went through Jamaica and caused a lot of flooding & high winds in Haiti. The DR had some rain & wind but didn't seem to get hit too badly that we saw.

I had too many errands to do yesterday so didn't ride. Purposely waited until later in the day to go to the grocery store. Not so much to stock up on storm supplies but because we'd just gotten back from the DR trip. We have a generator and the well pump, heating system and fridge are connected to the generator changeover panel, so it's not even that I need extra water.

I took my guidance on when to go to the store from noting something on the TV news about gas station lines the day before. On the late news they were saying that earlier in the day there were long gas lines and various belligerence, but that by evening there were no lines. So I went a bit later and the store was fine.

I might get in an hour or two today of riding, I don't expect rain until the afternoon. That would be the last time for a while.

Polar Bear ride got cancelled. Seems they weren't gonna let us across the bridge to Cape May, so it's off.

I got supplies. A half gallon of Mt Gay, a half gallon of Jack, and still have a case of Tuckerman's Pale Ale. The generator is full of gas, and have two spare cans to keep it running for a while. I did forget to buy a can of chain lube though, but I think we're good.

Was over at Home Depot in King of Prussia, and there was a frenzy as it seems they mist have gotten a tractor trailer load of generators. This woman had ideas she was going to fit this generator in her VW Golf. :huh

Then there's this guy who was attaching his prize to his car with the thinnest bungy cords possible. :eek1

Just came back from riding. Starting to rain here on Long Island and people in ape-shit mode, buying all sorts of crap and clogging up the roads. It amazes me how people spend $$$ on perishables right before a power-outage but the canned food aisle is fully stocked and untouched!

I love riding right before a storm. Hopefully my neighbor's tree will not crush my home.

Looks like it's not really starting up in north jersey until early tomorrow morning. I think I'll be getting out on the bike for a little while after work tonight before I spend the next 3 days at the firehouse lol

I went riding this afternoon. Since there was a little mist in the air and it looked like rain any time, I didn't go far from home. But then since it didn't actually rain, I kept circling around and around. Ended up stopping for lunch too.

When I got home after lunch it still wasn't raining so I checked some of our gutters. Good thing I did, they were clogged with pine needles and leaves.

Actually, I did all I could yesterday to get things ready. Loose things around yard lashed down or put in shed, gutters cleaned out, cars gassed up, and chainsaw fixed/ready to go in case any trees come down. Camping stove pulled out, checked grill(BBQ)for gas, freezer stocked with ice to keep things cold, and oil burner tuned and started up..for when we do have electric, to heat house if it gets cold. Bout all we can do...its gonna be what its gonna be.

I tied our balcony furniture into one unit and then tied it to the railing. Furniture bondage! The little side tables even have their legs in the air, lol.

I'm making a big pot of sauce and meatballs. I put the meatballs in the sauce raw, and they're very loose. I put a lot of egg in them, and they're not firmed up enough to stir yet. I sometimes put a lot of eggs in the meat, ever since seeing an episode of "Throwdown With Bobby Flay" where the chellenger who won used four eggs for every pound of meat. This is gonna be good!

I was out on the DARC VI ride this morning. Storm prep at the apartment consisted of taking the chairs in off the deck. Woo.

The shipyard is another matter, we've got to sandbag the shop in case the storm surge is as high as they're saying...
