Husqvarna TE 250 thread!!

    I may have some suspension from a TE450 to trade. It's been lowered 2". Front and back. I'd love to trade for stock stuff.

    I'm thinking of buying the bike but don't need lowered suspension.

    Around here a trials tyre is brilliant, but we don't see a lot of deep mud.

    They're also preferred because of the (percieved?) lack of damage to the trails we ride. We share with horses and ramblers who have great PR!

    We run the trials tires here too but only on the back

    Well I pulled the engine out yesterday and started tearing it down... not good. The piston was seized but broke free fairly easily. The rings still move freely but there is one groove in the cylinder that might be too deep to hone out. I knew the piston used a single compression ring, but what is the machined groove under the compression ring/ above the oil scrapers for? It looks like they intended for it to take 2 rings but it isn't machined deep enough to accept another ring?

    The valves/ cams/ water pump/ cylinder head look good and there was no abnormal metal in the oil or the filter. After pulling the starter out, the crank rotated but not real smooth, the lower rod bearing however was locked up solid! Why would the rod bearing take a dump first?

    On the grocery list now is:
    Crankshaft
    main bearings
    gasket set
    cam chain
    piston/rings/wrist pin/bearing
    cylinder

    Looks like about $1300 in parts, and as far as I can tell, replacing all these parts at the same time I could use the 310 parts. I'm still comparing parts diagrams between the 250 and 310 trying to confirm, especially since many of the parts are 3+ weeks out!

    Does anyone know of an engine builder/ shop that specializes in Husky's who's brain I could pick before ordering parts?

    True, ours runs so much better with the ecu and injector...but I still get stalls if I'm not aggressive enough with the clutch during low speed stuff.

    If my 450 could have this fuel/ignition mapping, life would be perfect :clap

    Sorry, that's a pathetic attempt at humour (there's a clue!).

    I'm in Devon, in the south west of the UK. The locals have quite a distinctive accent hence the alternative spelling!

    Great trail riding and a huge range from deep sticky mud to loose flints. Just very little sunshine!

    Good find on the online parts fische. It's probably not as user friendly (haven't done the comparison), but you do know Husqvarna has a pretty great library of their parts manuals on their website? Link --> http://www.husqvarna-motorcyclesna.com/manuals.php I'm not that familiar with other dirt bike manufacturer's practices in this regard in the "modern era," but I think it's unique to be provided such easy free access to this info ...?

    BTW, serious bummer about the motor. With an '08, you can get an Athena kit ... (I think this is the right one) http://www.athenaparts.com/eng/kits/view/16042/cylinder-kit-o-83-i-e I'm not that familiar with 'em but I do recall running across a US retailer.     As to what I've been up to, I finally got some decent two track under my belt about 3 weeks ago. Here's a video I made from my buddy's footage; with him as the camerman, I get to be the star. ;) We did 183 miles this day and I was surprised that I wasn't more sore the next.     Unfortunately the 2010+ engines (like the blown up one on my workbench) are the "x-lites" and parts don't interchange between the x-lite and the <2009 bikes.

    I just need to get both diagrams side by side and start itemizing which parts are different between the 250 and 310 and start ordering!

    Alright, whats the recomended oil change interval for a TE?
    I keep hearing stories about keeping it changed often, and don't over-fill.
    Local shop said he changes his son's 250 every 3 hrs.
    That's twice a day dual sporting. Help!

    The manual says oil change every 8 hours ridden in MX, 16 hours enduro. That is with the power up kit in place.
    At a little over 3000 miles on my 2009 TE250, I have changed my oil every 4-500 miles after break-in. So far, so good.

    i ride in the woods a lot and try to change it after every 3 or four rides.

    probably overkill but i can tell the bike likes it.

    also,
    yea, dont overfill it with oil, it will seep out of the filter cover.

    just fill it up to the halfway mark on the sight glass. (doesnt have to be exact or anything, mine is usually a bit higher)

    Thanks guys that is what I was looking for. Been hearing too many horror stories with this bike. First bike I've owned that needs alot of attention, but man is it a blast to ride! I'ts worth it.

    Bummer that the Athena 300 kit doesn't work on the '10+ motors. I have it on my '05 and love it. Low end grunt on that thing is amazing.

    I bought an 08 te 250 a few months ago, and discovered how hard it is to find aftermarket parts for it. -10 onward seem to be more parts available... For instance i' ve been looking for a clutch plate kit but with no luck. I did read somewhere in here that the bottom end is the same as the bigger bore engines, would that go for the clutch aswell?

    Hey everyone,

    I just bought myself a '06 TE 250 and have a couple of questions about the bike.
    1. How does the rear shock "behave" on these things?
    Mine seems to go down about 7in and then stiffens up in an instant. It's still possible to compress more but when the bike is stopped and I jump on the seat, it seems to hit a point after which it's very hard - regardless of the settings and spring preload. Normal?

    2. The bike seems to be losing gas. When loaded on a trailer, lots of gas spills out of the FCR37MX. Is it possible that the float level is too high?

    3. When I whack the throttle open at low revs, it bogs down instead of accelerating. When the revs are high, it takes off like a little rocket. I concluded that there may be two things wrong - 1. The accelerator pump gives it too much gas to combust at lower revs, 2 - The problem mentioned in point 2 above - the float leel too high and it floods the engine.

    I'll be grateful for answers/tips/advice.
    Other than the things mentioned above, the bike rides, wheelies ( :D ) and looks like it's going to be tons of fun once I sort out certain things.

    sounds like you are bottoming out the shock to me .


    and it sounds like your carburetor is jetted wrong.
