    Hi everybody,
As the title says Caf's rear shock has blown (the day we are back on the road after my Ohlins was fixed!).
Does anybody know a shop that would be able to fix it? We cross into Nicaragua today heading north, NYC being the finish.

    Cheers
    Pete (& Caf)

That'll be tough here. What bike is it off?

It's a BMW G650X but the shock is a Dutch built Hyperpro, I spoke to them and the American distributor is EPM in NJ!
They are closed today so I'll try tomorrow, according to Hyperpro the tooling and seals are unique to them!!!

Right.... How much time do you have? There's container companies I've used to bring parts in, but you would probably have to buy the whole shock. What others bikes have compatible shocks? There's a couple of older bmws floating around here. As far as a service center for that: ha! We're in nicaragua!

I've had Klaus from EPM Performance ship spare parts out to me when my shock blew up (the second time) in Argentina. He's a really helpful guy and will do whatever he can to get you rolling again. You might get raped by DHL, but Klaus will do you right. You'll need to get to Managua probably and look for the BMW dealership. Ask them who they have do their shock rebuilds for them. They'll probably give you the name of a hydraulics shop or something similar. Make sure they use the right oil and have the capability to charge it with nitrogen. Good luck.

I usually can get a small package here for about $25 or so depending on what it is. You'd be very hard pressed to find a shop that has specialty tools. One of the local guys here had a ktm shock that needed to be rebuilt, which involved nitrogen as well. He ended up sending out to the states.

Just be sure to disassemble what you have before ordering parts. Don't just assume that new seals and bushings are all it needs. In my case I had a chip in the chrome on the shaft which would've wrecked new seals very quickly.

:D The rear shock was shipped to Klaus at EPM Performance in NJ over the Christmas holiday! The work was carried out (under warranty) and shipped back to us in Mexico within 3 days and that included Christmas day.

Also a friend had her standard F650GS rear shock blow the day she arrived here for the holidays, Klaus built her a new Hyperpro (in the same time frame) and shipped it with mine.
What a pleasure, someone who does what he says he's going to do, no fuss, no moaning, just good old fashioned customer service.
