With not much to do i decide to do what else? ride.

so i head out on a nicer hiway rather than the superslab,,, salt river canyon

along the way a deralict site on the apache rez,,, it was a gas station and hotel area for a small lake,,, not much happens here anymore but it musta been a nice place in its day.

then it was on to the petrified forest,, i got there in time to set up camp foran early entrance, no pics of camp, you guys dont care about that

its neat the way these trees turn to stone, with various colors from minerals

and the way they cleave off like they WANT to be split into firewood

where we leave off? oh yeah

not sure how this ne didnt break up,,, but it gave the rangers time to shore it with concrete and make a cool bridge

colors that went into the trees

    route 66 reminder

well that was fun now what? canyon de chelley is right down the road a bit

crazy that water and wind is responsible for this,,, but if you look at the marks and swirls in the stone it seems logical

i knew i wasnt the first one here

it just doesnt really get old does it?

    it still doesnt get old

and if it does,, just play with the camera

after the paved view road ends, it turns to dirt, east across the navajo rez where the first trees show some color of this trip, but they wont be the last

they call this "fluted rock", wonder why?

meh, he's not much a conversationalist

the dirt goes east,,, it has a few short stretches of pavement, and somehow i ended up in grants new mexico,,,, so i went south into cibola mostly along the nmbdr route and found a camp spot,,, you guys dont want to see that

so the next day i take off down the nmbdr,,, nice colors in them thar hills

    doubletrack

what guy wont stop for an inviting hole, even if the feds did install the chastity belt

i tried to ride up to the lookout tower, but the gate was closed

    yup

Neat territory you have out that way, some of it looked like the moon
(or pics the government shows us of the moon actually looking like-maybe we never actually went there!) :deal
