I stopped off at Bent Bike today to take a look at a Hinkley Bonneville that I saw the other day when driving by.

I get out of the Truck and see a green Patrol parked in front of the Shop.

(in my head I say...that must be windmills rig) I've never met him...only seen him riding his rig around town once or twice.

Dude and him talked awhile and I got to check out his rig a little before he left.

Sorry I didn't introduce myself (if it was you)

I'm the big guy (Josh) that was looking at your rig as you were leaving. I was kinda set on a GU, but, after seeing his rig a Patrol might work.

Yup, that was me and my filthy Patrol

    Should have introduced yourself,
Always happy to talk to folks thinking of getting a Ural.

The guy I was talking to is in the service, and just got back from a deployment. He is really interested and considering getting one, but had the usual concerns about maintenance and reliability.

    Howdy FLYING EYEBALL,

The only difference between a Gear-Up and a Patrol is the cosmetics, under the paint and a few different accessories they are the SAME rig. Barry's rig is a fine example of back yard engineering at its BEST, he is also a good guy to ride with.

I assume that was you that recently joined SS with this username? I hope you get yourself one. They are a blast.
I met Barry last year. Very nice guy and quite a fabricator too. Just don't take any route suggestions from him unless you have heated gear. :lol3

The Patrol with the shiny bits is nice if your into that. The Gear-up is more not shiny bits. Other than that the Patrol has a sidecar windshield, lack of tool box tank, and front sidecar bumper. The Gear Up has a shovel, a gas can, and a spot light. Personally, I think the hand grips on the Patrol are better than on the Gear-Up. My first Ural was a 2005 Patrol. I currently own a 2010 Gear Up. I got tired of polishing the Patrol so I went Camo. The Tool box Tank is really not needed IMHO. It's really just a matter of taste.... Newer Patrols are also coming powder coated paint so that's cool.... Its' all good....

GU has a toolbox tank, Patrol does not, yet both have the same fuel capacity?

The tool box isn't very deep, about the same level as the filler neck and overflow vent allow the tank to be filled, whatever difference there is, it isn't much.
