Well, gear might have prevented some road rash, but I don't know about the broken bones.

That could happen to anyone if deer are going to be jumping in the road in the middle of the day...
Plenty of people who were geared up hit deer and ended up in the hospital, but wearing shorts on a bike is just stupid all the time.

Deer. Eat 'em every chance I get!

Saw a pair peekin' at me from the shade of some pine trees on the side of the road just yesterday afternoon maybe 1000yds from where a doe ran under the rear axle of my (thankfully) truck one time.

They can change your life in an instant.

Heal up, gear up & ride again.

Stupid, unpredictable, dangerous, three words to describe deer... and squids.

Possibly, badminton or competitive cup stacking is more his style. :1drink

It's cool, I've got my mom on the phone. :lol3

Sucks to wreck, especially on that chunky rocky asphalt. :eek1

I'm thinking he didn't have insurance - as if that was me I'm taking a nice ride in an ambulance after I'm on a spine board and collared up. Getting up and in a car with mom is just dumb.

Yes! That asphalt looked like a friggin' rasp. Or a nice cheese grater.
No gear. It works every time!

Some hiking/work/military boots would have done the trick. Anything besides skate shoes.

    Damned forest rats.

His mom was cool. I'll bet it wasn't the first time She'd had to rescue him. I can't believe the big baby posting the vid of himself calling for help.

In defense of deer: they are around, so one should expect them somewhat. I may be wrong, but I have seen no attempted braking action - no dive of the bike. I am guessing that "covering the brake" is a lost skill. Impact could have been less severe.

And, of course, I was rather dismayed by the sneakers and bare limbs suddenly coming into field of view of the camera. That must have hurt - it hurt me to watch.

Still... Mom! I fell off the bike! Mom!
    :huh:huh:huh

I live in deer country, the threat is always on my mind - which is not to say that I would not be surprised as well, crashing like the rider in the original post. But, hopefully better protected.

For a change of mood, here is a "controlled impact". It is a 205, I linked to this a while back, but still good for a refresher. The clip is in German, but don't worry: roll up to time marker 1:15.

It's not really as simple as it seems: notice the wiggle of the front after impact (even though the rider is a pro) - still, food for thought.
